Tips for backgrounds in photoshop

I was wondeirng if anyone had some tips or techniques they use in photoshop to make some cool backgrounds. I dont really know how to do much so i just hit buttons and see what it does to certain things. lol

I'll give you a small tip, 80% of backgrounds start with the "clouds" effect =)

HERE (http://www.trap17.com/index.php/first-sig-tutorial-c4d-coloring-photoshop_t36764.html) is the tutorial I used to make mine (I think mine turned out alot better than them8)), and HERE (http://www.astahost.com/info.php/how-make-two-different-abstract-sig-backgrounds_t6311.html) is another. They're not really for making your own, more or less manipulating already- made ones and stuff, but it's still useful info.
