3.71 M33-3 can do it, but you need to press SELECT instead of HOME.

Could be a faulty memory stick. Though first back up your files then format the stick and try again.

Im on firmware 1.50, I bricked it previously and used pandoras battery to recover it to 1.50, after doing some reading around various places I think that I might need to format flash1, not sure if this is the cause or not. How would I go about formattting it if it is that?

Update to custom firmware 3.52 M33, there's an option to format flash1 in recovery mode.

noted what you said about the menu in the 3.52 that allows you to set the umd and cpu speed etc but i am unable ti find the settings for theses!
i have gone to the xmb and have only the usual options, cant find one for the umd etc and if i press home whilst in the xmb then nothing happens!

i have just updated to 3.52 with no problems thanks to the instructions on here!! thanks goto everyone involved!!!!!!!!!

It worked!!!!!!! My other memory stick must of being a fake which i bought off the net and had the psar problem with, but then i used my brothers which he brought from a shop. (1gb) And now i have 3.52 M33

I'd recommend using 3.52M33 as it has newer features and you don't have to "mimic" 3.11 all the time.

After the installation, you don't need devhook anymore. You can keep it during the 3.52M33 progress, it doesn't matter. :D

1) natch, if you're on 3.51M33, you don't need the kxploitpatcher. you can't start is because your game folder is set to 3.51 kernel.

2)if you want to upgrade to 3.71M33, then you need to upgrade to 3.52M33 first, and update the 3.52M33-4 patch, then you may proceed to 3.71M33 installation.

Install 2 times? They're two different programs.

Make sure your GAME folder kernel is set to 3.X. You can find this setting in the Recovery Mode (hold R during bootup to access).

Weird but its most likely my computer. It doesnt really matter anymore i found the 1.50 eboot in the eboot thread and got the 3.52 eboot from google searching :)

I have recently decided on updating the psp i mentioned on this thread [link (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5055)]. Since it was on a defective 3.40 oe i had to update to 3.52 m33 and i ran the first part of the firmware updater called 3.52 M33 creator that worked succesfully, i think. Then i decided to run the second part of the update called 3.52 M33update and it started but quickly turned back went to the XMB. I dont know what i can do other then creating a pandora battery, help?
btw, the only reason im not using a pandora battery is because i need to buy one.
nvr mind i figured out when i started the second part of the update the screen turned black and since the psp's battery was not above 75% whenever i pressed X it exited back to the XMB. so i used a recharged battery and guessed what button started the cfw update .

The problem is your memory stick. It's either faulty or very slow (Lexar brand). On some Lexar sticks the process can take hours to complete.

Yeah you should, maybe buy it from a website that sells official products or from a store. Ebay is known for is really cheap knockoffs of real psp memory cards that have a tendency to be defective. guide to determine of the MS is fake (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5552)

You can't downgrade to 1.5 with this,this installs custom firmware.

And official firmwares can't run homebrews (like m33 creator), your only way is to use the Universal Unbricker (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3780) to flash custom firmware for you.

Yup, even if you have 3.52M33 install files ready, you need to have 1.5 or custom firmware in order to continue.

Making the Pandora Needs another custom firmware PSP in order to do so.

Yes, you need to install 3.52 M33 first, update to 3.52 M33-4, then install 3.90 M33. The install process for 3.90 M33 will just spit out an error if you try to install it on anything lower than 3.52 M33-3.

Its been 6+ months since I got my PSP (TA-082) v2.71 and until recently when I discovered this great community that has "Excellent How-to Guides" to hack PSP(s).

I read a lot from other sites to downgrade my PSP but was not successful. Thanks to everyone who put so much time to help out others.

I successfully downgraded my PSP and brought it back to custom firmware v3.52(M33-4). But I have a few Qs to all the experienced users here at Exophase.

+ I recently got the Games "PATAPON" and " WIPEOUT PULSE" but I am not able to play these at the above custom firmware..?
When I launch the game 'PATAPON' the screen stucks at 'Now loading' for very long time and then the PSP shuts down after some time..:confused1:
When I launch the game 'WIPEOUT PULSE' I get a black screen for some time and then again it shuts down..:confused1:

There is no big difference between 3.80 M33-5 and 3.90 M33, aside from the fact that 3.90 M33 has the 3.9 kernel, which some future games may require in the future.

DevHook is a firmware emulator. It does not work on any of the new custom firmwares, so don't try running it

There is no big difference between 3.80 M33-5 and 3.90 M33, aside from the fact that 3.90 M33 has the 3.9 kernel, which some future games may require in the future.

3.90 M33 does not have the 1.5 kernel installed by default, but there is a 1.5 kernel add-on available here (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5634).

Thanks Acerthief. That helped solve the problem and run the game. Earlier the UMD Mode was set to "M33 driver - No UMD". Hence I was stuck on 'Now Loading' screen!

After running the kxploitpatcher, how to undo it?

My installation for 3.52 M33 is unsuccessful and wish to revert to devhook but it just wouldnt work. :(

It gives a "Games cannot be started" error message when I tried to launch devhook.

Could the patch be causing the problem?


it means that it's patched.
try starting the 3.52 M33 creator, and see if you can go and start making the updating files

IT's a sony MS pro duo 1GB. Does it matter which brand? I'm thinking of getting a SANdisk 2GB instead. Any compatibility probs with 3.52 M33?

I'll prob try to get my hand on another stick.

But the strange thing is, now when I tried to revert to devhook0.52, it wouldn't work anymore. It gives me some error message saying that the game is unable to load (and some error number), when I tried to launch Devhook during the Devhook 0.52 installation.

Devhook Installation

1. On the PSP go to the Game menu and run the Devhook Firmware Installer.
When Prompted too press X, the PSP will restart on its own when finished.

2. Once Finished launch Devhook <-- error message appears here. Unable to launch Devhook.

Sigh...now i'm left with neither.

I managed to install the 3.52 M33 and went on to install 3.71 M33-4 with 1.5 kernel addon!

Got around the problem by downloading the 3.52 M33 Update file from this link.

It seems that my PSP has problems generating the update file, could be the memory stick I dunno. But managed to execute the update file successfully to complete the installation process.

Now the question:

I see these files on my memory stick, and which one can be removed so that my GAMES menu will not be so cluttered?

Yes, the firmware isn't stored on the memory stick so even if you switch sticks you'll still have the same firmware installed.

For any homebrew applications that aren't working, create a GAME150 folder alongside GAME and put them in there. By default 3.52 M33 uses the 3.X kernel for homebrew, and native 1.5 applications won't work under that.

Yah, you need a Pandora Battery and a Magic Memory stick for these guides on this forum, but there are some guides on how to make a Pandora Battery and a Magic Memory Stick without a PSP. Because in order to make the Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick, you need a PSP with CFW on it.

The ones that don't need a Pandora Battery aren't always safe, because they're not 100% trustworthy compared to this pretty trustworthy Site right here =)

The regions are compatible, only UMD Videos and some features rely on regions. As for your PSP, if you're on 3.93, Then you'll need the "Universal Unbricker" like what fearevil said. It will get you to 3.90M33-3 directly.

You may revert back to OFW, but not 3.90M33-3 -> 3.80/3.71 or older firmwares.

and slims, they only work with Universal Unbrickers, as there are no 1.5kernel on the board, you can't go to 1.5->3.52M33->3.52M33-4 ->...., in other words, slims don't use the downgrade method.

If you're running OE you need to place in the files in GAME150. If the folder doesn't exist then create it.

Uh... are you trying to run the "1.50only" program in the first step? You're not supposed to run that on 3.40 OE, which is why it is displaying that message.

Here is a step by step guide for installing 3.52 M33. Please note that you must be running 1.50, or any of the OE series firmware to begin this installation.

First grab the 3.52 M33 files (http://exophase.com/files/psp/3.52M33.zip) and extract them.

1. If you are running firmware 1.5, first go inside the "1.50only" folder and copy both kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% to X:/PSP/GAME and then execute the program through the game menu on the PSP.

2. Copy the M33CREATOR folder to X:/PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to X:/PSP/GAME150 if you are running OE.

3. Now download the 1.50 and 3.52 updates which you can grab below:
1.50 Update (http://exophase.com/files/psp/150.PBP)
3.52 Update (http://exophase.com/files/psp/352.PBP)

4. Place the two updates you downloaded in the M33CREATOR folder.

5. Navigate to the game menu on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33 CREATOR."

6. Once finished, navigate to the game menu again and execute "3.52 M33UPDATE."

7. When finished, follow the on-screen prompt to reboot. That's it! You've now upgraded to 3.52 M33 :)

if you are running 3.40OE-A now just skip step one. start with step two, and you don't have to copy the kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders into your memory stick, just copy the M33CREATOR folder.

Make sure your PSP is in 3.52 kernel mode. To check this boot into recovery by holding R at startup and look in the configuration section.

I can't seem to get even that working -_-' I hold R at startup but it starts in normal mode anyway, and not in recovery :/

Hi guys, well my brother appartently put custom firmware on my psp, and it is at 3.03 OE-B.
It is currently in 3.03 Kernel mode.
I'm wondering if this update will help me get to 4.01 and then to 5 or whatever the newest one is after I get it to 3.52 m33-4.

I am assuming you have 3.52M33 given that error code, sys info confirms this?

you need to update to 3.52M33-4>3.71M33 and then straight to 5.00M33.

Before you start the updater though enter recovery. (cold off, hold RTRIGGER and turn on.) make sure kernel is set to 3.52. Run updater.

As you are already on M33 you do not need to go back to 1.50. 1.50 is simply a starting point due to major weaknesses in that Firmware Version (later closed & quickly)
