Well yeah i burned out my gaming rig. Lost the hd , and mobo. Lost 4 years worth of source.... and a ton of apps and data. If any one can help .... i cant get my data off the drive when i insert it to windows it doesnt read it and locks up windows.

I already replaced the mobo mem and proc with
Amd 64 mobo
am2 socket
7.1 sound
gigabite lan
hdmi
dvi and vga

AMD am2 4800 + proc with heatsink

2 gigs of ddr2 800 memory matched pair.

Still need :
atx powersupply that supports sata.
Pci x video card
terabite of sata 10,000 rpm drives

But again if any one can give me an idea how to recover my source from my hd that would be swell.

eeep...how'd you manage that?...and if the drive locks up windows then theres nought that can be done there...sucks :(

That's a joke, right?

i doubt it.a TB of space is easily done with RAID setups

I know, but of 10,000 RPM, that's ALOT of money. I mean, that'd be upwards of over $1000 just on HDs!

But anyway, as for your problem, XsavioR, would it be possible to, maybe, access the drive from Linux? I'm no Linux user, so I don't know any sort of specifics or even if it'd work, but if it locks up Windows maybe it won't lock up Linux. Just a thought.

ive got 1.2 terabite in my file server im on while i manage to get my main rig back up. Currently ive got 2 500 gb and a 250. I dont plan on getting it all in one drive that would be silly.

hmm perhaps chilly can inform me if it is possible to rip data from a corrupted drive threw linux.

i was also told chkdsk might work

I think there are some externals which backup lost or corrupted files but I cant be sure.

1TB? XD In my house our server has 2 xD

Maybe it's sectors are damaged or it has phisycal damage due to the "fire"

I don't think it's recuperable, although there are companies that can recover files.

and btw, I don't recommend windows for file recovery!

use an Unix based system

a 150gb raptor x is 200 bucks so 1tb would be very expensive with regular drives you can get a 1tb for like 340

That's exactly what I was sayin'; 1TB of 10,000RPM is a little ridiculous, price-wise.

I'm an ATI guy, so I would definitely suggest a Radeon X1950XT or X1950XTX. They're both absolutely stellar cards for the price, the only downside is no DX10 support.

If you want any linux in that PC I don't recommend ATI :P

No, just no DirectX 10 support. It still supports DX9 'n' such, just not 10, which is Vista-proprietary anyways.

what price range are you looking at with the card?...a big factor with graphics cards i believe is the price people are willing to pay. once you've decided on how much you are willing to pay then you can look about for the best card you can get with the money.

also,do you have a SLI or CrossFire compatible mobo?

i dont think so theres only one pcix slot

Ive been watching the checkout at work. and have seen a few nice cards going for like 249 with such and such a rebate. Im really getting tempted to just go get another 2 gigs of ram and video card and GB/s router. But i prolly won't untill i have a game to play worth it. I dont want other more pressing responsibilities clouding my mind b4 I decide to spend the money and get it, so i can get the best when i need it. With my luck there will be a switch on the plastic..... when i pop open the package (cant return it) a wistle goes off and they release teh one i want :P
