Yes, it works on both Slim and Phat batteries. Also remember you can use the Phat battery in a Slim unit.

Did you use the msfatmod.prx patch for your 3.90M33 PSP?
That might be the problem.

14. Copy the 1.50 update to the root of your memory stick (X:\UPDATE.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).

My english is not that very good but my question is where do i have to put this 1.50update?

which folder?

pspknightx
02-20-2008, 02:03 PM
Just put it under the root of your memory stick.
Which you can see those "ISO", "VIDEO", "PICTURE", "PSP" and so on.
Just put it there with the name of UPDATE.PBP.

next question is how do you know if the memorystick is working correct or installed right?

16. Press X to install a 1.50 firmware, containing Pandora, to the memory stick.

17. When the process is finished, press L+X to install the IPL. Now exit the application.

because after i pressed x i didnt read what on psp was and i pressed L+X

but i have finished to the end. All 22 steps

Also this will change your psp to 3.80m33-5. if i use it to phat psp can i also change my psp to 3.40 oe-a? because there is a 340.PBP?

The only way to make sure it is working correctly is by booting up your PSP with the battery and magic memory stick inserted. Seems like you did everything correct though.

As for your other question, yes this installs 3.80 M33-5 on your PSP. You can't change your PSP to 3.40 OE by doing this. The guide and programs are made specifically to install 3.80 M33-5.

Can anyone help me? I screwed up big time when I did the 3.90 M33 wrong. I think I placed the files in the wrong place or name. Now the system is plain 3.90.

I tried the steps above to revert it, but I dont have diagnostic mode, nor will the system run any app, Time Machine or Pandora's Battery. Is it totally screwed, or is there something I can do?

You can restore your PSP back to 3.80 M33-5 with a Pandora but in order to convert the battery and install memory stick files you will need to have a PSP running custom firmware. So hopefully you know someone with custom firmware that can do this for you. Otherwise there are people over at Noobz.eu (http://forums.noobz.eu/downgrader-support/people-who-can-help-you-unbrickdowngrade-a-psp-using-pandora/0/) who will.

Unfortunately no. The only way to get back on custom firmware is by using a Pandora battery.

Not sure what you mean... I told you in another thread that the TOOL battery is a Pandora. So just boot up the PSP with the magic memory stick and TOOL battery inserted and it will display a menu asking if you would like to install 3.80 M33-5.

Yes. All PSP batteries (well, the ones listed the compatibility list) have a EEPROM chip that is writable. The PSP reads this on bootup and it checks for a specific serial code. So if that serial code is detected it enters service mode and starts loading files from the memory stick.

Since you already have a Pandora battery, only follow the instructions to create a magic memory stick. All of the NAND backup utilities are on the memory stick.

And I'm not sure if the Max Power 3.6v 1200mAh Slim can be converted to Pandora. Someone will need to test it.

Your NAND is damaged. You can try using NANDTool (http://exophase.com/files/psp/nandTool_0.3_beta1.zip) to repartition the lflash. That usually fixes the problem. Be sure to carefully read the readme file though.

Yeh but NAND and id_storage are different. e.g- on Pandora for fat v2 when MAxsafe was installed the options to back-up NAND and back-up id_storage were two completely different options. So will i be able to INSTALL max-safe on this Universal Unbricker.

P.S-If i made this on a fat, will it work on a slim

NAND = Partition + lflash (flash0/1/2/3) + IDStorage

So when you backup your NAND, your IDStorage Keys are backed up as well.
You can use cory's nandTool to only flash the partition, lflash, IDSK parts of the NAND.

4. Upon launching the application, take note of these four options:
Press O to convert battery to Pandora
Press [] to convert battery to normal
Press R+O to write battery serial to file
Press R+[] to restore battery serial

First, you will want to press R+O to backup your battery serial. If for any reason you'd like to convert your battery back to normal in the future, press R+[] to restore the battery serial. This is the preferred method for restoring your battery back to its previous state.

If by chance you forgot to back up the battery serial and still would like to convert your battery back to normal, choose the second option by pressing [].

Once you're ready, press O to convert your battery to Pandora.

What is the differents between [] and R+[].

Why not just []? It will change to normal battery anyways not?

also i pressed wrong button when i make the pandora battery. after make the battery i pressed x. Do i have to install the whole magic stick again?

Maybe the battery isn't converted.

Also that press square just makes up a fake serial, which still doesn't give protection to the battery. In other words, your battery doesn't have heat control, it might suddenly explode.

Also, you have to take the battery out, let it stay put for a few seconds, stick the memory stick in, THEN put the battery in.

Right: Bunch of character and numbers. You'll see it the first time or when you flash the EEPROM back to the battery.

Made UP: something like 0xFFFFFFFF or 0x00000000 (One of them.)

After you converted the battery back to normal make sure you fully shut down your PSP and then take out the battery. I don't think the changes go into effect until you remove then reinsert the battery.

thing is i bought a battery of ebay, and i dunno if its compatible to be used as a pandoras battery, how do i know it will work, its a generic battery, 3600mh..
its a weird battery, it says when its 100% full, it will last for 11 hrs
this is fine and works until abt 2hrs left, until the baterry gets to 26% and my psp goes black(something like a brick), and green power light is still on. this is when i have to change to my original battery, although i have to wait a minute before that even begins to work, like i switch batterys, flick the power switch, and nothing it stays black , the first time this happend i freaked out so much, but after abt a minute later, it goes back to running back to normal, u guys think i can make this battery into a pandora battery, or is there any harm in tryin to make it into a pandora battery, thanks

Yes the Slim batteries work. I only know that it works with the Sony branded batteries though -- not sure about other brands. If it doesn't convert properly, the battery may not work anymore.

You can only make a magic stick and pandora with a cfw and you have ofw. So thats why you cant make one.
You need someone who has cfw to make you a magic stick and pandora.

damn any way to make a pandora battery with my 1 psp running on 3.11 without opening it up and possibly melting my face off? lol

Sorry no. You really need someone to make you the battery with a cfw.

you can send to someone and they will do it for free. well you have to pay the shippingcost ofcourse.

Maybe you can try this http://forums.noobz.eu/downgrader-support/people-who-can-help-you-unbrickdowngrade-a-psp-using-pandora/0/

To x3sphere

If I use this forum magic stick and use the TOOL orange one will it still be a Universal unbricker?

Can I use this to psp slim? Also is there more different between the Tool one and the one you made by yourself?

I know you have said the different is TOOL one cant use like a normal battery, but is there more different between those two?????

pdd827
03-01-2008, 03:22 PM
the tool is just a pre hardmodded pandoras battery, say if you were to crack open your battery and lift the pin up, thats pretty much what the TOOL battery is, (works the same way) so yeah it'll work with this unbricker

You'll need a PSP with custom firmware do to so, running homebrews on official firmware gives you back that error.

If you can't find a PSP with custom firmware nearby, then go to this thread HERE (http://forums.noobz.eu/downgrader-support/people-who-can-help-you-unbrickdowngrade-a-psp-using-pandora/0/) (noobz.eu) and look for people near you that can give you services for free if you pay for the shipment fee.

If you DO have custom firmware, change the kernel to 3.XX, and coldboot.

HA.. Nevermind I figured it out.. you need to have an original game in.. in order to play backups.. DOH!

Just a note, not sure if anyone covered this yet because I didn't read the full thread (sorry 58 pages is a lot for me to catch up on). I downgraded to 380 m33 from 390 m33 with this and only have 1 battery so when I was done to get back to XMB I removed battery hooked up power cord and booted psp to normal mode then incerted battery and returned battery to normal.

I in no way say this is safe or take responcibility for anything going wrong if you try this... Bla bla bla may explode!

Sure, but I wouldn't recommend it as a Pandora Battery lost its temperature control. It might blow up all of a sudden.

I had a question. On the display screen, it says 3 different options:
-upgrade to 1.5
-put pandora battery
-put normal normal battery

I was wondering, if i have pandora battery, for example, can I go back to this thing and change my battery back to the regular battery?I was also wondering that you have a chance to brick your PSP? Or not? And one last question I would like to ask is, you have to put a umd emulator to play isos or torrent downloaded games, or do i just put the games in the "Game" folder?
Can someone please answer asap!!

thanks and sorry i wrote alot. :p

You can convert your battery back to normal. Look at the last step of "Installation: Converting a Battery to Pandora." There's no chance of bricking your PSP.

We don't allow discussion of "torrent downloaded games," so I can't help you there.

which custom firrmware is the best?

IMO, 3.90 M33-2 is the best.

You can reformat it but personally I'd leave the magic memory stick files on there so you don't have to recreate one later. They only take up around 50MB space or so.

I just bought another Phat PSP, but this one is second hand. It is using firmware 3.93 OFW. My other Phat PSP is using firmware 3.90 m33-2.

1st question: Can I use this to downgrade the OFW to the CFW?

Using my old PSP wih CFW I can't figure out step one "First boot up the PSP into recovery mode (hold R during boot) and make sure the GAME folder homebrew setting is set to 3.X Kernel. Exit recovery mode."

When I do that there is no GAME folder homebrew setting that I can find. I only have Config, run program, advanced, cpu speed, plugins, registry hacks and exit for my options.

I just continue and got stuck at step 16. The process did not finished, I waited for 15 minutes. I got the error message on top about the code but it continue and got stuck when it said time to get a cofee.

What am I missing here...

Please help.... :confused1:

If you don't have the kernel add-on,then the game folder kernel is set to 3.90 (because there is ONLY 3.90 kernel if you don't have the kernel add-on installed)

The option you speak of can be found inside of configuration. Also yes this can be used to downgrade a PSP running official 3.93 firmware.

I waited about 15 min. but I lost patience and reboot the PSP. Is this normal?

Shouldn't take that long - try formatting the memory stick and copy all the files back over and try it again.

Hi to all mods, admins and everyone,

Well Im new here and have read some of the post in this thread. I have a fat PSP original firmware 3.90 and Im planning to convert it to Custom firmware using magicmemstick/pandora. I will use my brother's fat PSP CFW 3.90 M33 to make one.

I have read from previous post that fake SonyMemstick might mess it up, so is it better to use the SCANDISK memstick? coz I know I got a fake one(check it thru other threads). or give the fake one a try,but Im afraid of bricking it up,coz we both have no Pandora to back it up.

And my battery says SONY 3.6v 1800mAh is it the same thing as this > Sony PSP 1800mAh Battery Pack(from requirements)?

Can you enlighten me please.. Interesting Guide and well detailed!! The best one!

If your battery is original from sony then yes you can use it.
Also about the memorysticks I have one fake too. It is 2GB high speed Sony. This one can be used.
I rather use the original 1gb MS from sony.

If so, select Advanced from the menu and then choose format flash1.

hi, x3sphere I have a question here.
I have a psp slim with 3.71M33-3. Recently, I made a pandora battery and magic memory stick using my psp slim and succesfully moded my brother's psp 1000 from 3.40 to 3.71m33-4.
The problem is when I use the same method to create the pandora battery and magic memory stick to try to downgrade my friend's psp slim 3.80. I does not work. When I insert the memory stick first and then the battery, all I saw was the green light on the power light. Both the memory stick and wifi light didnt not work. I have tried with sony 512mb, sandisk 2gb, sandisk 4gb and sony 4gb. None of them work. However, they all work on the phat psp but not the psp slim with either new 1200 or old 1800 battery. So do you know what the problem is? Thank you

There's a couple ways, the easiest would be to upgrade to 3.50 and use the firmware 3.50 downgrader. That requires a UMD copy of Lumines, though.

A Pandora battery and the magic memory stick files will work on 3.93 firmware, yes. Converting a battery to Pandora and installing the memory stick files requires a PSP running custom firmware though.

On a side note, the guide has been updated to use the newly released Despertar del Cementerio v5, which will install 3.90 M33-3 on your magic memory stick.

Glad you got it working, apparently installing the Time Machine IPL is required for DC5. I'll have to rewrite some portions of the guide for this. For now, I've restored the old DC4 guide.

The guide was updated yesterday to use DC5 and it doesn't work without installing the Time Machine IPL. For now we've restored the old guide. You can follow Coy's instructions here (http://forums.exophase.com/showpost.php?p=34587&postcount=620) or follow the magic memory stick portion of the guide again on the first page.

Take out your memory stick and battery, hold you battery and dance around the room for 20 seconds (well you don't have to dance XD) then insert the memory stick FIRST then the battery.

You can use Hellcat's Pandora Installer to convert the battery back to normal. And if that's successful, make sure it is by converting the battery back to normal, rebooting, reloading the app and verifiying the serial for the battery was changed back to normal then it's ok to reformat your memory stick.

Sure. Note that the magic memory stick is only "Logically" formatted, so only the first few bytes were moved/resized. The rest of the stick is the same.

Can we use DC5 instead of DC4 in this tutorial ?
That means installing 3.90M33-3 instead of 3.80M33-5 .

The guide has been updated for use with DC5 now. If you already have DC4 installed, just start from step 18 on the magic memory stick portion. Tested it myself and works fine.

I followed this guide step by step, but when I reached the 'Usage'-part I can't seem to boot by holding Up.

The PSP I used to make the pandora and the magic memory was a PSP Slim with CFW 3.80 M33 and the battery was a 1200 mAh one. The memory is a Sandisk Ultra II.

What did I do wrong?

First did you take out the battery and reinsert it if you are doing this on the same PSP you used to create the battery? Also try booting the PSP with the battery inserted, but no memory stick. If it boots to a black screen then that means the battery was converted correctly.

Wait a second, when were you supposed to take out the battery and reinsert it?

From the looks of it, most people are claiming you can *not* make a pandora battery with a slim? What's the deal with this?

Under the usage instructions:

Note: Provided you followed the instructions above, this process will work on any PSP, regardless of the hardware. If you are performing the following steps on the same PSP you used to create the battery with make sure to remove and then reinsert the battery.

The changes to the battery won't take effect until its removed and then inserted again.

And you can use a Slim to create a Pandora battery.

I tried two times, it won't work. After clicking CIRCLE to turn the battery into a Pandora one, I shut down the PSP. Then I take the battery out and reinsert it and then I hold UP while booting, but I just get the normal menu.

The PSP Slim I'm trying this with has 3.80 M33-5 CFW.

To isolate the problem can you try booting your PSP with only the battery inserted and not the magic memory stick. If the PSP boots fine then this is an issue with the battery. If it boots to a black screen then this is an issue with the files on the stick.

Yeah I tried doing this a few more times. It won't work with these batteries. I even tried updating to 3.90 M33-3 and booting, without the magic memstick. :/.

The memorystick I have is a Sandisk Memory Duo Ultra II 4GB, if that matters.

Ok, then the problem is that Hellcat's application is not changing your battery serial for some reason. Could be due to a bad EEPROM chip.

Just wondering is it a Sony branded battery?

Usage: Unbrick / Downgrade / Restore Any PSP

2. You will be presented with a menu telling you to press X to install 3.90 M33 Press X.

One quick question; I'm running 3.93 ofw on a slim psp does the menu still come up or is it just a blank screen and i need to press X (like in the guide for 3.60 m33 installation) and then X at the end after the files are copied?

First, don't double post. Secondly, your question is asked in the first post of this guide. You will need a PSP running custom firmware to complete some of the steps. If you don't, then purchase a pre-converted Pandora battery.

Hi - new here. Thanks for all the information, it is fantastic.

I am having the same problem I've read above. Everything goes fine until I move to the unmodded PSP and attempt to boot to the Pandora battery by holding up. It just boots normally. When I boot without the memory stick in, it still boots fine.

When I first start the Pandora Installer application it gives me a splash page saying it detected a PSP Slim&Lite TA-085-v2 or newer mainboard and these boards make it impossible to create a Pandora battery. Is that true?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Does he have a phat or slim?
Some consoles are reported failing to show the menu screen, yet they can still install the firmware.

If you dare, you can actually "blind install" (Press X for 3.90M33-3), See if the Wifi and memory stick light starts flashing. If so, set it aside and let it run until the lights stop flashing. then press X to turn off the system. now turn on the system normally and see if it's in custom firmware!

You don't need a spare memory stick. After installing the files it can still be used as normal.

Are you sure the keypad was working before you upgraded? Installing 3.90 M33 wouldn't do that -- seems like a hardware problem. You can create a magic memory stick with 1.5 on it by following this guide though: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3238 Note that it will not work on Slim units of course.

No, doesn't matter, it just needs the 1.50 update file on your memory stick.

13. Download the 1.50 update and save it as "UPDATE.PBP" without the quotes.

14. Copy the 1.50 update to the root of your memory stick (X:\UPDATE.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).

Make sure it is named correctly. I know some versions of Windows hide the file extension so if it doesn't work try just renaming the file to "UPDATE" without the quotes.

That means the old Pandora installer doesn't work on 3.90 M33, then. In that case, follow ONLY steps 1 through 17 on the first post of this thread. It will install the 1.5 firmware to your memory stick.

After you've done that, just boot up his PSP with the same Pandora battery and magic memory stick inserted and it should prompt you to install 1.5.

I will say I used my mates PSP cwf 3.90 M33 and had no issues running this.
I tried to run the U.P.M.S. Emerald Installer and I kept getting errors, I know this works with 3.71, but not 3.90.
So as I said thanks again......

I have a question. More than one unfortunately.

Have a phat PSP with firmware OE 3.95 -- would like to convert over to custom firmware.

Per the Guide -- I must have a current custom firmware to do so -- how do I go about creating a pandora's battery and magic memory stick.

I found another thread here that discusses creating a Magic Memory stick using windows XP -- and I followed the steps. I then found a article to covert the battery -- but think I did something wrong. Battery fails to hold charge. Bought new battery presently -- but I keep thinking how can I go to custom firmware.

Or is is best to use a datel tool???

Lost and confused. Trying to make this happen for my nephew. None of his friend have custom firmware.

If I use the datel tool battery -- what is the actual process and then do I follow the guide listed here?

thanks for any help

Well, if you don't have a custom firmware PSP, there is no possible to way to convert the battery, other than by hardmodding it (not recommended). The Datel TOOL battery is already a Pandora so that will work... the other other thing you would need then is the magic memory stick (which I presume you already have?)

Thank you for the prompt reply.

So, if i get a Datel Tool Battery -- would it just be for one time or could I use this as the main battery.

I think I created the Magic Stick -- as everything occurred as the instructions indicated.

The Datel Tool battery can't be used as a normal battery, but you can use it multiple times to install custom firmware on any PSP.

I have a phat psp so i cant test it right now, but if i just stuck with the hellcat pandoras battery, can i load the 3.90 M33 firmware on the slim or do i have to make a time machine and use the firmwares on that in order to hack a slim psp?
so for eg. if i was trying to load 3.90 M33 firmware on a psp slim (using hellcat pandoras battery) that has official 3.60 firmware on it, is that possible or is this made only for phat psps

My universal unbricker is already set to install 3.71 M33.
Is there a shortcut I can use to make it install 3.90 M33 instead, without having to go through all this?
Like replacing some files or something.

Take everything out of your PSP (memory stick, battery), hold it and dance around for 20 seconds (I perfer chacha or breakin) then stick the memory stick back FIRST, then the battery.

If it doesn't work, well, install the memory stick again.

can this method be used for a 3.71 running OFW? if no, what can be done? it said "Using The Universal Unbricker To Unbrick / Downgrade / Restore Any PSP To 3.90 M33-3 " so i presumed it should work for 3.71 OFW?

Yes, any firmware, any console.

Hello,

I have a slim PSP which is on custom firmware 3.71M33. I want to make a magic memory stick with version 3.90M33-3 using the tutorial from x3sphere.

However, I'm already stuck at the 1st line "make sure the GAME folder homebrew setting is set to 3.X Kernel".

How do I define this kernel? When I boot up to the recovery menu (R + power on), I get the following topics in the configuration menu:

- Skip Sony logo
- Hide corrupt icons
- Autorun program at /PSP/GAME/EBOOT/EBOOT.PBP
- UMD Mode
- Fake region
- Free UMD region
- Hard Reset on homebrew
- Use VshMenu
- XMB Usb Device

Normally, I was expecting to see a line such as "Game Folder Homebrew (currently : 3.71 Kernel) in this configuration menu

I suppose I have the requested 3.xx kernel, but I'm not sure. Please help me.

Thanks,
Vef

The setting should be in-between Hide corrupt icons and Autorun. It's not there? That's VERY odd but try running the program anyway... if it doesn't work it will just output an error message. If that happens, then create a folder called GAME371 alongside GAME on your memory stick and place the application folders in there instead.

Hi x3sphere,

Indeed it is very strange, but there is no info about the kernel in-between Hide corrupt icons and Autorun, even though I'm on 3.71M33.

But anyway, I followed your instructions in the guide and it ran smoothly. I did not receive any error messages while making the magic memory stick, so I suppose there will be no further issues when upgrading to 3.90M33-3.

By the way, I suppose I can use this same memory stick to upgrade a fat PSP which is still on original firmware. Or do I need additional files on this memory stick because it's a fat PSP. It's for a friend of mine and I want to be completely sure not to harm his PSP.

Many thanks anyway for the support and the awesome good tutorial!!!

Yeah, the same memory stick can be used to install 3.90 M33 on a fat PSP. No additional files are needed.

I wanted to downgrade my PSP from 3.95 GEN to 3.90 M33-3. I did everything that I was supposed to do and it did it succesfully, but when I try to boot my PSP while holding UP on the d-pad it just boots into the XMB.

I have 3.90 M33-3 and try to make the magic memory stick but it gave me error to install 150.PBP ..."error while initializing: 0x80ca0005" I let it there waiting to install but look like it done nothing. I wonder how long do you have to wait for intall 150? I waited for 30 mins but still at the same screen.

I tried different memory sticks but it's the same error

First try re-downloading the 150.PBP as it may be corrupted. It doesn't take too long to setup the magic memory stick, probably around 15 minutes or so, if that.

Also, are you sure your memory stick is not fake? There's a good guide here on how to identify counterfeit sticks:

http://reviews.ebay.com.au/FAKE-Sony-Memory-Stick-Pro-Duo-MagicGate-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001535703

These memory sticks usually have problems with generating the magic memory stick files, since the process is very read/write intensive.

Thanks for reply. I have tried all kind of setup but nothing working. Then I tried Card Adapter, then no problem at all. The problem is PBP extension has problem transfer from USB directly to PSP. The best way is to insert the memory stick to USB Card Adapter and transfer PBP.

I may want to add this in the tutorial so it can eliminate this issue.

one stupid question. i've bought a psp slim(don't know which motherboard or firmware) and its getting shipped right now. just wanted to know how to proceed to install cfw. will this guide works? btw i already have a fat one running 3.90m33-3. is the step needing the 1.50 firmware necessary because i've read that the slim doesn't support it?

can someone please help me with this? thanks in advance

if i have PSP Pandora Battery and Magic Memory stick already can i put cfw on a new psp 2000 by

1.While holding UP on the directional pad (is it a problem that i bought it online and their instructions don't include this part ) boot the PSP with the magic memory stick and the Pandora Battery inserted.

2.You will be presented with a menu telling you to press X to install 3.90 M33 Press X.

3. Memory stick LED should begin flashing. Wait around 5-10 minutes, when the LED stops flashing the process is completed.

4. Now press X to complete the installation - it's imperative that you do this.

5. Boot up the PSP with a regular non-Pandora battery. You may be presented with a BSOD, but just press X or O to restore settings.

6. And that's it. You're now running 3.90 M33-3

if i'm wrong please help

and this is what the person i got it from said

Remove any UMD in the drive and make sure the PSP is not plugged into the charger.

Insert the magic memory stick.
Insert your Pandora's battery.
The system will automatically boot and display options to load the CF 390 m33-3 or the original 3.90 firmware.

Should work. If an older version of the universal unbricker is on the stick you won't have to hold any specific button at bootup - only the latest version requires that.

Do you know what firmware is on the stick by any chance? Just checking because firmware 1.5 won't install on a Slim. 3.60 M33 and above work fine, however.

thanks its probably because its an older version of the universal unbricker (does it matter)

fw is CF 390 m33-3

and wow is it really that easy (with proper stick and battery) thats less work than my 360

if i follow this thread, what firmware will it install on my psp slim? 3.90m33-3 right? but what i don't understand is why it includes the 1.50 and 3.40 firmwares? will the 1.50 firmware not "brick" my psp slim? its only this part that i don't understand

thank you for your replies
