Can I include 3.9m33-3 so that I have two choices to upgrade to 4.01 m33-2 or downgrade to 3.9m33-3?
In my opinion should upgrade to 4.01 m33-2.

Rapoy, yes u can. If u already have a DC5 (install 390), u will need to configure a different button during DC7 (install 401) installation. I have this setup TM/DC5/DC7 setup in my MMS

You can skip the battery conversion part.

Hi x3sphere,
am I able to follow this guide using a PSP with 4.01 M33-2 already running?
The reason I ask is because at the start, you say to set the GAME folder homebrew settings to 3.xx Kernel.
My PSP Only has 4.xx Kernel?
Or, would I have to get my PSP back down to 3.71 M33-2 or 3.90 M33-5 or something like that.
Where I would then follow these steps, creating the Pandora set.
Then, I can upgrade back to 4.01 M33-2 and all will be well.
Thanks,
Project7.
EDIT: I might aswell ask, what is the best firmware to use?

It works with the 4.x kernel too, as it is basically the same as 3.x. So yes using 4.01 M33-2 is fine.

Well, that means there is nothing wrong with your battery. Try following the magic memory stick portion of the guide again... perhaps you missed a step. And, if possible, use a different memory stick this time.

When I insert my battery first only the power light comes on, but when I insert the magic memory stick the other lights turn on, so I'm not quite sure whats up. :confused1:
Oh yes and the memory stick I used was a pro duo sandisk (512mb)

What's weird, but convenient for me is the fact that I don't need to plug my PSP in the AC adaptor to normalize my Pandora Battery.
In fact, I am actually using it as a normal battery right now.
If I want to downgrade someone's PSP, I simply put it in after the Magic Memory Stick and hold my selected button (the one you set in Despertar del Cementerio) to bring up the menu where I can select
Install 4.01 M33 or Install 4.01 OFW etc etc
If I want to normalize it, I just open up Pandora Installer and choose the option.
Great!

@lion9t Hellcats recovery flasher can downgrade 3.71 M33-2 for you since you already have CFW. Perhaps an older version can do 3.90 M33-3 honestly I can't remember.
http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=8383
Or you could simply launch Despertar_cementerio5 to get 3.90 M33-3

thanks to this forum i learned a lot...
however still having some doubts about the psp
Recently i bought a psp already with version 4.1 m33 to my kid.
Once I know that sometimes kids (and grown ups) brick their psp... before i give it to him i wanna make a backup (narm backup right?) so that if something happens i can revert the process to the actual state.
I have been reading a lot about instaling and downgrading psp's (making pandora baterys etc etc etc) but can anyone help me how to make a "backup" and "restore" of the console into/from a ms?
Is the process the same as to downgrade it???
Do I need all this steps???
Thanks!

You can still use it after converting to Pandora, as long as you have the magic memory stick inserted. Otherwise you can run Hellcat's installer again to convert it back to a normal battery.

1) I have already created a mms with the totalnewbi easy installer. If a use Hellcats program to create a jigstick will the two work together or will i need to redo the mms as per this guide?
2) I intend to use a CFW slim psp to make my phat battery into a jigstick. Am I right in understanding that it is possible to juse a phat battery in a slim psp for this purpose?
3) I note that it is possible to restore a battery with Hellcats program but if a battery is a jigstick it will boot in service mode not to the XMB so how do you access the program to restore the battery? Boot using the AC adapter and then once at the XMB insert the battery? Would that work?

How long does it take for the psp to boot up after putting in the Pandora battery ?
The power light is green as soon as I put the battery but nothing happen afterward, holding the up arrow same result.
Try on my PSP slim with 3.95 firmware same results.
Try on my PSP phat with v.352 M33-4 same results.

I saw the post about installing another program to restore the battery but I was wondering how it could be done with Hellcats if a pandora battery only boots to service mode. I did not know that with timemachine you can boot to the XMB. If that is the case, then i understand how Hellcats program can be accessed, but then its not really necessary to restore a pandora/jigstick battery is it??

if your motherboard is ta-085 v2 or higher, you get a warning message when you enter hellcat pandora installer program. as you said, you can test this by trying to convert battery.
if timemachine installed on magic ms, by the way x3sphere said. you can boot to XMB with pandora battery, just dont keep any button when you insert the battery(in slim psp, must have CFW 3.8 M33 or higher to do this).
it's not requied to return battery to normal, but it's good, because you may insert another ms into your psp or something else...
So if I convert my memstick into a magimemstick can i turn it back into a regular stick or does it matter? I am mainly asking so that way i know i can still run my CXMB and isos and apps. P.S. Srry for the noob question, I dont usually go pandora

Introduction
Okay I have this little problem.
The thing is, I just bought a new brand PSP from the stores, and I would like to convert it into Custom FirmWare, so I can run homebrew.
So I know you have to have 2 PSP's to be able to convert a battery and so on, and luckily my friend has one.
Information
~PSP #1 - Friends PSP: PSP Slim (Black) CFW 3.71 m33 (Motherboard: ??, Box Letter: E, FW 1.52)
Battery: Sony PSP 1200 mAh
Memory: Memory Stick - 4GB normal memory stick
~PSP #2 - My PSP: PSP Slim (IceSilver) OFW 3.95 (Motherboard: ??, Box Letter: G, FW 2.01)
Battery: Sony PSP 1200 mAh
Memory: Memory Stick - 8GB normal memory stick
Situation
Earlier this evening we tried to fix CFW on PSP #2 but the battery for PSP #2 that was supposed to be a Pandora Battery did not boot up as explained on this guide.
After several tries of holding up while starting the PSP (as in reinserting the battery), we did not succeed in getting any change on the boot process.
On none of the PSP's it booted up as a pandora battery.
Discussion
I'm a bit surprised it didn't work, after thinking it should work, I'm still surprised though why it doesn't.
I know the battery is not on the list, so my first guess would be that the battery is incompatible for being converted.
However, the Hellcat program said that the battery was converted into a pandora battery, and quoting from Gaspar:
I make Pandora on battery PSP-S110. Run so good.
I thought there shouldn't be any problems really...
My other guess would be that the motherboard of PSP #1 is of T088 v3, and thus will not convert the battery, but that information would be incorrect since the HellCat program would give an error it was said in this thread.
My problem is probably just the same as this guy has:
Hi all
I've been struggling with my new PSP to downgrade the firmware.
I'm currently on 3.95 OFW.
I followed this guide to the T but unfortunately i'm getting the same problem I always get. WHen I get to the stage where I insert my pandora battery and hold the up arrow, nothing happens. The light remains green but no other lights begin to flash and I get NO menus....Any ideas?
Thanks
Tom
I can't trust gaspars replies because I have no clue of what he is talking about and I think probably he doesn't either.

Did you try the magic memory stick + Pandora battery on PSP #1 (your friend's PSP). His is definitely not a TA-088 v2 or v3 so it should work.
Your PSP may have a TA-088 v3 motherboard, which Pandora does not work on at all. There is a guide here on how to find out if your PSP is a TA-088 v3 or not:
http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=8848
PaulPhoenix
09-14-2008, 10:59 PM
Well, since I googled a bit I found out TA-088 v3 (sorry for my earlier misspelling, I am still a newbie to this) comes with OFW 4.01, but mine's OFW 3.95, so it should be TA-088 v2 or lower, if I'm correct.
How do I know I am successful with making the Magic Memory Stick?
I just followed the guide though, it seems like it installed a bunch of files and folders on the memory stick and all.
Anyways, we tried converting the battery, (the battery, it IS the same battery that followed my PSP when I bought it...), we were given no errors, and it said conversion was complete, so all we did was move the "pandora" battery (supposedly, in this case) and "magic" memory stick to PSP #2 (My own PSP), but we found no change from earlier start up sequences (except that the "magic memory stick" only had 4.5(something) gigabyte when in reality it had around 3 gigabytes more).
maybe the storage capacity of the memory stick is too large. X_X
Blah, I have no idea.
And after that we tried with the "Pandora Battery" and mms on PSP #1, but it was the same, a CFW PSP with a magic memory stick and nothing more, the battery acted just as a normal one.
Personally I think the battery is incompatible, and that it won't convert that battery.
I don't know if it's the battery, or if it's the HellCat Pandora Battery Conversion program that won't do it's job on this particular battery.
Searching around the net I saw someone else had converted with another program, pandora installer 5.2, or whatever...
Battery, or Program?
I don't know, if it's the program, I'll try (try and try.. to be honest I really really want to succeed T_T) finding another program with a similar battery conversion.
If it's the battery... gosh I don't think I want to order a new battery OR a pandora battery, I'll just leave it in to some technicians to hardmod it then... ÖnÖ
(Side info: Battery #1, and MMS #1, the original "parts of PSP" #1 were excluded in this "experiment".)
EDIT:
Oh wait a minute.. I just took a read in that link you gave me...
"It looks like the 2000 series PSP (Slim) that have the letter "G" or superior on the boxcode are the ones that have this mobo."
My box got that G... =x
Does that mean all of this is hopeless now?
EDIT 2:
Then again... =.=
Edited.
Some confirmations around that letter "G" is for 3.95 original firmware and contains 088v2 mobo. But not 100% sure. Yet.
Hmm... @n@" I'm going all crazy here..
I just wish there were exact tutorials on my same situation, haha... x3

If you turn on the PSP with a Pandora battery inserted, but without a memory stick inserted, does it boot up normally? This is a surefire way to know if its a problem with the battery or not. If the PSP boots fine like this, that means the battery wasn't converted properly.
Are you using the battery that came with the PSP or another one? Some online shops sell "fake" batteries that seem to work fine but can't be used as a Pandora battery as the EEPROM on them isn't writable.

Oh my you reply so quickly @.@
But yea, it's the same battery that followed, I don't think we ever "reconverted" the battery, since we didn't think it would ever convert but yea... so I could try right now...
And the results are:
Boots up normally.
The battery came in the box though, didn't get any... "outside the box" batteries with it @_@.
And the model is:
"MODEL PSP-S110 Li-ion
BATTERY PACK 3.6V = 1200mAh

Well, i just figured out.. it's not my friends battery that is m33 bootable, that was just the PSP m33 modified recovery system when holding down R at startup, so his battery is also normal.
More and more points to this being a battery unable to be converted.
I will try to buy another battery as soon as I can, but I can't find any shops or online stores in my country that sells any of the compatible batteries.
Another option I have is to use another battery conversion tool, but it just... won't be the same. :(
Do any of you know where I can get a hold of Pandora Installer, something? <_<
Oh and yea, we will try right away to convert his battery to see any changes. T_T
UPDATE: It seems like the "MADE IN CHINA" version of the same battery gave off the same results... =(
I guess it's the battery then, since the programs are running fine on PSP #1, except that it gives incorrect message when completed, for me atleast @_@.

I was wondering though, if hardmodding the slim & lite battery would allow it to be converted.
As seeing on youtube, they first hardmod it before they convert it with the magic memory stick, or am I on a totally different track?
if hardmodding doesn't work, I really need to get a hold of a "real bootable pandora battery", somehow. @_@
I just read this on someone's blog though:
"Note, if you get 0×80250084 (hardware) error on running this with a slim PSP, have a look for an app called pspident by jas0nuk - if you have a “TA-085 V2″ slim there is currently no way to read/write the battery PROM on those versions using software."
is there any difference on TA-088 v2 and TA-085? how do I know which is which? @_@
Oh, and hey, what are your opinions on this guide?
http://pspslimhacks.com/forum/index.php/topic,1103.0.html
I was thinking of maybe having my friend hard mod the battery, since I'm not so handy with stuff like that x.x, (step 2, that is) since I might just buy another spare battery and keep the original one as a pandora battery along with mms somewhere safe?
And after installing, just upgrade to 4.01 m33-2? mmh ? =o
EDIT: Okay, so I just ordered * Datel PSP Battery 1200 MaxPower, it's almost the same as 1800, but 1200 mAh instead.
If that doesn't work converting, I will just use it as my main battery and have my friend hard mod the original one @_@ and hopefully that will work.
So... wish me Good Luck! =^w^=

I see now..
The reason why none of this has worked is because...
The first post, (The tutorial) is incorrect.
"Apart from TA-088 v3 units, the process works on all previous "Phat" and Slim PSP hardware revisions to date."
If it only had mentioned that TA-085 v2 does not support it either, then I wouldn't have wasted so much time on... trying so hard. @_@

this program work on TA-085 v2, but you can't convert a battery on this type of motherboard(TA-085 v2 and higher version can't create pandora battery)
if you create a battery in another type of psp, you can run DC7 on any psp except TA-088v3

I added a note in the guide, to warn that you won't be able to convert a battery to Pandora on TA-085 v2+ units.
Usually, though, Hellcat's program should notify you if the motherboard is compatible or not. It's odd that it didn't.

when i ran the Pandora Installer, i get this warning message..
This program has detected a PSP Slim&Lite TA-085-v2 or newer mainboard.
On these mainboards, it is NOT possible to patch a battery into service mode a.k.a Pandora.
You can still use any other functions of this program as well, as an existing Pandora to boot into service mode, you just can't patch the battery yourself on this PSP.
.. should i still continue with the process?
the reason why i'm going to downgrade is because the techinicians that i've brought the unit has no clue how to fix the wifi problem on my unit. they said that it maybe been the software upgrade that caused the problem since they've checked the hardware and that it didn't have a problem ..

Hi, i'm new to this forum and CFW.
A couple months back i bricked my psp fat when attempting to upgrade it from 3.72m33-4 to 3.80m33. I did not back up my IDstorage then and the best me and my friends could do was to get it back to 3.72m33-4 but my UMD reader and wLan doesn't work.
When despertar del cementerio v.7 came out saying that it could restore my IDstorage keys, I decided to give it a try. I followed all the steps stated, but when i insert a normal battery, my psp does not boot up and i am also unable to access the recovery menu. However, i am still able to boot up the pandoras battery.
Please give me some advice.

xSphere, is it possible to use OSPT OpenSourcePandoraTool instead of HellCat's formater?
I mean, is TimeMachine a requirement? Is it possible to mark some of your steps as optional if they are really optional?
I've already followed another tutorial using OpenSourcePandora & DC5. Can I keep my magic stick and just update it with DC7?
.....
I briefly read the readme.txt that comes with DC7 and it just says copy DC7 and 401 update and run. No formating required.

If you already have a previous version of DC installed you can do that. This guide is mainly for people who don't already have a magic memory stick. Beginning with DC6, TimeMachine is required if you're setting up a stick for the first time... since some IPL files need to be installed on the stick.

I am using the popsloader that Dark Alex made for 3.71. I made pops 3.40 & 3.72. Let's call this popsloader v3.71.
After upgrading to CFW 3.90 I think I had to update my popsloader to v3.90 too otherwise it wouldn't run.
Now I have upgraded to 4.01 CFW. Was there a popsloader v4.01 associated with this CFW? If not, I could try my popsloader v3.90 to see if it still works (but I doubt it).
Fingers crossed.
PS: That's really strange. Cory's Pandora Installer has now installed half of Pandora into my PSP memory stick? Coz I put in my Pandora battery and it boots my PSP normally (if I don't press the UP arrow). And it appears to the PSP that this is a normal battery???!?! It wasn't like this when using original Fanjita Pandora or OpenSourcePandora. Is this the special thing about Cory's Pandora? It's so weird that it made me believe that the Pandora battery I made using OpenSourcePandora didn't work.
Someone really should write up a difference/comparison in using the 3 different Pandora Installers:
Original Fanjita (from Edinburgh): only for Classic Phat PSP, and Pandora battery is not duel purpose.
OpenSource Pandora: (same as Original Fanjita)
Cory's Hellish Cat: duel purpose Pandora battery, can operate normal and as a pandora battery using a hot key (UP) during boot..

Yes, depending on the battery you have!
Known compatible batteries:
* Sony PSP 1800mAh Battery Pack
* Datel PSP Battery 3600mAh 2X
* Datel PSP Battery 1800 MaxPower
* Sony PSP-280 2200mAh
* Atomic Battery Pack 3.6v 1800 mAh
By the way, you can add Sony PSP 3.6v - 1200mAh to that list! (Mine, worked perfeclty)

:/ I think I ended up doing something wrong. I followed everything as closely as possible, but I ended up not being able to upgrade my own psp. I did downgrade it from 3.95 to 1.5, but I'm not sure where to go from there, since the guides I've seen don't show what to do for it, and I'm afraid that I'll wreck it (or my friend's) in the process. Does anyone have any advice?
Edit: I got mine up and running 3.52 M33, gonna update it now, so forget my last question...
Edit 2: now I have a problem: I originally started out at the official firmware, version 3.95. then, I screwed up the upgrade process, but managed to get it to 1.5. then I upgraded it to 3.52 m33, 3.52 m33-4, 4.01m33, and finally 4.01 m33-2. anyway, I'm having problems now. my battery, which I made into a pandora battery when trying to upgrade from 3.95 to 4.01 m33-2, won't let a system boot properly. my friends battery works fine, but mine just turns on the light but keeps the screen black when plugged in. I'm guessing I made a mistake somewhere, and since fat psp batteries are hard to come by around here, not sure how I'd replace it. some help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi Guys, thank you for all the insights. I just bought a PSP Slim 2001 and followed the procedure mentioned here to create the MS and the pendora battery on a phat PSP running CFW. When I put in the MS and the battery in the slim psp (keeping the UP arrow key pressed - inserting the MS first and then the battery) the screen remains blank and nothing happens. When I tried the same on the phat psp i could get the service menu. Do you have any idea as to what might be wrong here. My phat psp battery was working with my slim psp before it got pendorized.

If your Slim unit has a TA-088 v3 motherboard DC7 will not work on it. Do you know which motherboard you have? Also, have you tested the battery and magic memory stick on your Phat to make sure nothing is wrong with your Pandora setup?

For creating a pandora battery and a magic memory stick you must have a psp with CFW and not with your OFW PSP.. Just try to ask your friends if someone has a CFW on his PSP or if someone has a PSP with OFW lower than 3.50.. If you find a PSP with OFW lower than 3.50 you can downgrade it and upgrade it to CFW without the need of a pandora and a magic memory stick.
Although you will have to create on of those for your psp..!

This guide does not work with the latest Hellcat installer, that's why revision 3b is linked. Either way, the end result is the same. It's just easier for me to stick with this one since if a new DC version is released, I can update it quickly. I was considering to rewrite it based around the latest installer but decided not to in the end because of this.

The issue here most likely is that the battery you have is fake. It probably still works fine, but these batteries are made with cheaper components and often are missing the writable EEPROM required for Pandora creation.

Can someone confirm my logic please?
I have a Pandora MS which I have timemachine and DC5 thru DC8 installed. I thought this was a little cluttered so I did some looking. I found the config.txt file under the TM directory. Inside it looked like this:
UP = "/TM/DC8/ipl.bin";
UP = "/TM/DC7/ipl.bin";
UP = "/TM/DC6/ipl.bin";
UP = "/TM/DC5/ipl.bin";
CROSS = "/TM/150/ipl.bin";
CIRCLE = "/TM/150_340/ipl.bin";
TRIANGLE = "/TM/340OE/ipl.bin";
SQUARE = "/TM/360M33/ipl.bin";
UP = "/TM/pandora.bin";
This looked like a problem waiting to happen. All the DC's were linked to the Up button. I changed the DC7 thru DC5 to left, right and down and tried the stick with the Pandora battery. I now could select which DC I wanted to use. Trying each, I found that using the "Test M33" on DC6 and DC7 it booted my PS from the MS stick and the firmware was 4.01M33-2. See this and not really needing DC5, I removed the DC5 and DC6 directories under the TM directory and also the DC5 and DC6 directories under PSP\GAME directory. I then reconfigured the config.txt file to look like this:
UP = "/TM/DC8/ipl.bin";
LEFT = "/TM/DC7/ipl.bin";
CROSS = "/TM/150/ipl.bin";
CIRCLE = "/TM/150_340/ipl.bin";
TRIANGLE = "/TM/340OE/ipl.bin";
SQUARE = "/TM/360M33/ipl.bin";
UP = "/TM/pandora.bin";
Now I can select if I want to install 4.01M33-2 or 5.00M33-4 just by the key I hold down.
I also now only have the following files in the root of the MS:
msipl.bin
150.PBP
340.PBP
401.PBP
500.PBP
UPDATE.PBP (this is the same size as the 150PBP; not sure why it there but I left it)
Now for my question. Can I be assured that by using the "Test M33" menu item that either process will convert a PSP without bricking it? I had great confidence when the stick was untouched by me and had up to 4.01M33-2 and I have convert many PSP's for friends.
Thanks for the analysis.

hihi can anyone give me any advice to this big question marks that i have??
Q1: Can i convert another PSP's memory stick + battery and then use it on a PSP Slim with 5.00 OFM so as to convert it into custom firmware??
Q2: Does converting the memory stick into a "magic memory stick" affect it in any other ways except for the fact that it helps with the converting of firmware?? Or simply put does it function like a normal memory stick with just an additional attribute that allows users to convert firmware??
Q3:How do i execute all the steps that are stated in this thread when i'm actually using a PSP Slim with 5.00 OFM?? I can't even into the recovery mode!!!!
Any help and advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED as i can save some big bucks if i send my PSP to the workshop to convert it back to CFM!

1) if your psp came with 5.00 ofw, no. anything over 4.01 has a new mobo. some 2000's have new mobo too. not just 3000
2) after you are done creating the magic memory just reformat it. go to system settings, format memory stick. im pretty sure you cant still use it like normal.
3) wel if you have a t88v3 you cant get into recovery mode wit pandora. but if not and u have an older slim you will be just fine if you follow the instructions to the letter. i used a fat battery pandora and it worked just fine its not like wit the fat psp i had to pop in the battery like 3-4 times the it finely kicked into recovery.
ps-i accidentally upgraded my fat to ofw 5.00 and downgraded just fine.

If you are at 1.50 i believe you have to go through a process of upgrading through different cfw's (eg: 3.52 m33-3 > 390 m33 etc) if you download the cfw .rar files there will be a txt file telling you that you must have a certain cfw (or higher) installed on your psp to install that update. (for more detail feel free to pm me)
cfw can be found here >> <a href= "http://alek.dark-alex.org/filez/dax/">Link</a>
ofw can be found here >> <a href= "http://alek.dark-alex.org/filez/psp_fw/">Link</a>
if you dont wish to upgrade from one to the next and you have a spare battery (or the one you are using) you can follow the tutorial from the first post and just go to cfw 5.oo m33.
i hope this has helped you.
