This debate is on wether or not everyone thinks there should be a universal format for disks (it can branch off into other things but disks more)
The combatants are
Blu-ray
HD DVD
DVD
Hardrives + downloadable content + rentals.
Whatever else anyone can think of

Would be nice if HD-DVD didn't exist... DVD is phasing out and now the battle is between HD-DVD and Blu-ray, but Blu-ray is in every way superior, expect for price of course.

I think in the long run Blu-ray will be the standard format.

Really doesn't matter to me. I personally prefer Blu-Ray but what will really bother me is that there will be a exclusive content competition for both formats which is not good for the consumers (imo).

But whatever. HDD's pwn anything Sony & co. could make.

i agree with ecko...i'm all for HDD's.the access times are slow for discs (not sure about HD-DVD and BR discs though :\ ) compared to HDD's...a big problem though is that good HD's aren't really portable...not in the same way as a DVD...

but with trying to make it smaller, they have to make comprimises on the speed of the disc and the capacity.thats why laptop's run slower than a similar spec'd desktop, because of their hard drives. most desktop hard drives are at 7,200 rpm while laptop ones are about 5,200 rpm which results in a lower read/write speed, boggin down the overall system performance. the best desktop hard drives can run at 10,000 rpm which is a hell of a lot better....

obviously there are a lot of other factors but for a generalization smaller HD = worse

I am going to have to agree with shadowforte everyone already owns dvds and dvd players no one wants to go out and buy 5,000 dallars on equipment just so they can see an extra leaf that they never saw before.
