View Full Version : How To: Install Popsloader on 3.80 M33, 3.90 M33

Popsloader is a custom firmware plugin created by Dark_AleX, the main man behind the M33 firmwares. This plugin allows you to load your PSOne POPS games using any of the different firmware POPS versions from 3.00 to 3.72. Note: This guide has been written specifically for 3.80 M33-3 series firmware and above.

Although Popsloader takes time to install, it's well worth it for the increased compatibility with PS1 games. Here is a step-by-step guide for those new to Popsloader.

NONE of these steps write to flash! Everything described in this guide is SAFE!

Installation Guide

1. Connect the PSP via USB and enable the USB connection.

2. Download Popsloader (http://exophase.com/files/psp/380m33popsloader_v2.rar). Extract the archive and copy the seplugins folder to the root of your memory stick. (X:\seplugins, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).

3. Download PSARDumper (http://exophase.com/files/psp/M33_NEWPSARDUMPER.zip). This extracts required data from a firmware update. To install, simply extract the archive then copy the "newspsardumper" folder over to PSP/GAME on the memory stick.

4. Download the firmware update that corresponds to the version of POPS that you would like to install. Compatible firmware updates range from 3.00 to 3.72. Additionally, download links to all firmware update EBOOTs are available here (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=2886).

5. Copy the downloaded firmware update, named as EBOOT.PBP, over to the root of your memory stick. (X:\EBOOT.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).

6. Navigate to the Game menu on your PSP and launch PSARDumper. Once launched, press square to begin extracting decrypted firmware files.

7. After a few minutes, the process should complete and your PSP will return to the XMB.

8. Once again, connect the PSP via USB and enable the USB connection.

9. Look for an F0 folder on the memory stick. Inside, copy the following files to the seplugins/popsloader folder, depending on the firmware update used:

3.00 - 3.03: kd/popsman.prx, kd/meaudio.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx
3.10 - 3.30: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx
3.40 - 3.72: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx, vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

Once you've copied the files, make sure to add a version prefix at the end of the filename. i.e. if you used firmware 3.40, then rename popsman.prx to popsman340.prx, pops.prx to pops340.prx, and so on.

After you've done this, the F0 folder on your memory stick can be safely deleted. Simply repeat steps 4 - 9 to install another pops version.

10. Now enable the plugin. To do this, boot your PSP into recovery mode by holding R when turning the power switch on, then enter plugins, and enable popsloader.prx. Exit recovery mode.

11. Congratulations! Popsloader is now installed and ready to use!

The first time you run a PS1 game that has no popsloader settings, the plugin will display a menu to select the version of pops you wish to use. To change the specific pops version for a game that already has popsloader settings, hold the R Trigger while selecting the game from the XMB Menu.

Guide based on Tenshigami's (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=1553) Popsloader guide for 3.30 and 3.40 OE.

Tell me what you're confused with on with step 9... because it seems perfectly clear to me.

the link doesn't work for me..when I click it..it goes to a page with many letters and numbers that I can't understand..

Ok tell me if I am correct..1st I have to copy all the files for the firmware on the popsloader folder..then I'll add the prefix of the version of the POPS I want on every bit of file I copied?..or I will copy ONLY the files that you specified for each firmware and put them in the same folder and add the prefixes on each file that corresponds to the firmware version that I wanna install..thanks..

Probably your web browser isn't identifying RAR files correctly. Do a right click -> save as on the link.

You only copy the files that are specified in the list above, then add the prefixes on each file.

Okay I am running 3.90 M33 or whatever it's called... 9 also confuses me because it goes up to what to do for 3.72... Also you say to download latest firmware update for POPs or something... Also confused as that list goes up to 3.80

Popsloader is only compatible with updates 3.00 - 3.72. So just don't use anything higher than that.

Ah. So I am screwed then unless I downgrade to 3.72?

Nope... I think you are confused on what this plugin does. Popsloader is for loading different versions of POPS, the PSOne emulator. With each firmware release, Sony usually changes some things in POPS. For instance there are some games that work on 3.40 POPS that don't work on the 3.90 POPS. So basically, Popsloader allows you to load these older versions of the emulator on 3.80 M33 and 3.90 M33.

OH!!!!!!! I thought it was an emulator all on it's own O_o

Okay, so if I download and install 3.72 then I'm good? (Not exactly the most computer literate person.....)

Well you download the 3.72 update to extract certain files from it, not to actually install the update.

What brand memory stick do you have? I've heard popsloader does not work with Lexar memory sticks.

Official Sony 8GB. I tried popsloader with 2 other games, MGS and FFVIII and it works perfectly. FFVII is the only problem. It's an ISO from the original disc so it should be fine. And it worked fine on 3.80 m33 and 3.71 m33-4. A bug in popsloader maybe?

Seems to be working perfectly now. I noticed that a strange picture had replaced the normal one on some of my game save data. This picture:

I dunno how it got there or where it came from but it was there. I deleted some of the save data I didn't need anymore though I left one or two. And presto it worked. Popsloader works fine now. Can anyone explain this?

Earlier 3.80 M33 releases replaced the save data icon with that due to a bug in pops. It was fixed in a later release (and of course is fixed in 3.90 M33). So that's probably where the icon came from.

Not sure why that fixed your problem with FFVII though.

Alright, I am just wondering, but does anyone know where I can find a Compatibility List for the most recent POPSLoader? Because I don't wanna put Digimon World 3 on it if it won't work...

(Also wondering for the purpose of the original Grandia)

There's a compatibility list here:

Most of those games were tested with the 3.10 pops.

That's normal. You have repeat steps 4-9 to dump a different pops version. For example, in the fourth step, download the 3.10 EBOOT then follow the remaining steps to install 3.10 pops.

All you have installed right now is the 3.72 pops.

Alright done making 3.10, checking now to see if it works. :-)

... Made 3.10 and 3.03 and tried Digimon World 3 on both, same problem on all of them... Can't eneter buildings because when I leave it locks up the game... Oh well... ((Gives DW3 the finger and deletes it))

Sounds like you didn't rename the PRX files or did not rename them correctly. Can you list the files you have in seplugins/popsloader on the memory stick?

Hey. I didn't get my psp yet but its coming in soon.

Meanwhile I was trying to figure out how to run ps1 games on a Slim 3.90 m33 and I came upon this

upon completing steps 1 - 9, does the process extract certain files (files that enable you to run ps1 games)?

BTW i find this guild pretty helpful. even tho my psp didn't even come in yet

Hi

I was wondering will the PSP only run the eboot files labeled as "eboot.pbp" or could it load "eboot1.pbp","eboot2.pbp" and so forth. I mainly want to know because I want to create eboots for multiple disk games and dump them on my psp. Or is there a another way to run multiple disk games on a psp?

Also, what folders do I make to put my ps1 games in. Like, what should the folders be named?

No, it doesn't work like that. You can either combine all of the discs into one EBOOT using the program available here (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5034), or place each EBOOT in a separate folder, like:

X:/PSP/GAME/FFVIIDISC1
X:/PSP/GAME/FFVIIDISC2

Doesn't matter what the folder is called as long as it is created inside of the GAME directory.

BTW whats a XMB?

XMB is short for Cross Media Bar. It is the PSP's main menu screen.

Hello, I'm new here, ad I believe I followed the instructions step by step, but every time I try to load the 3.71 pop plugin, the psp freezes.

My PSP is running 3.90 m33_2

I installed the latest popstation "3.80 m33 version"

I downloaded the official psp 3.71 firmware

I placed the 3.71 firmware *EBOOT.bin* to the root of my memory stick

I ran PSARDumper, and it decrypted it.

I went into the F0 folder, and copied the files it told me to from the 3.40-3.72 area

I put 340 at the end of the names "340.prx"

When I tried loading the 3.71 firmware in pops, the mem stick flashes, and that's it, it just sits there.

Now, I went into my seplugins folder, and changed the 340's to 371's "blabla371.prx"

Ran pops again, I picked 371, and it still froze :(

I'm trying to run Rockman X3 which previously ran with no problems on my psp fat, and running an earlier firmware which I can't remember off the top of my head.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.

EDIT - GOT IT!!!

I was supposed to put the files in seplugins/popstation folder, not just inthe seplugins folder, and they had to have the 3.71 name in them

Rockman X3 works now :)

The keys.bin should go inside of the game's folder. Although all of the newer converters don't require a keys.bin.

If you followed this guide here to convert your PSOne games, then you won't need a keys.bin:

On step number 5 of this guide it says to put the "eboot.pbp" into the root menu of the memory stick. When you said "eboot.pbp" do you mean we must change the firmware downloaded from step number 4 into that name, "eboot"? For example, if I downloaded firmware "3.71.pbp" do I change the file name into "EBOOT.PBP"? (The file automatcially downloads as "3.71.pbp" when I click 3.71 firmware.)

Do any games work with popsloader for you or is it just BoF IV that is the problem? If the latter, I'm guessing you have a corrupted ISO/BIN file.

Thanks for the writeup, I found it rather useful due to the lack of instructions in any of Dark_Alex's releases.

I've been having the same problem a lot of posters have had, when I select a version in Poploader while loading a game, there's a brief bit of memory stick activity and then a system crash. I've made sure to follow the instructions to the letter and read through this whole thread looking for something I may have missed.

Copied the 3-4 files from the PSAR dump to X:\seplugins\popsloader, giving them the appropriate version suffix

Choosing to use the default 3.90 popsloader allows the game to boot

Oddly, using 3.10 results in far more memory stick usage before the crash. It flashes for about 1 1/2 seconds while the other 2 just blip

The only guess I have is that something is going wrong during the PSAR dump. I'm sorry if I'm being out of line on your forums, but would anyone be willing to throw up a copy of known working prx files? Any other ideas would be helpful.

We can't share files from the extracted PSAR dump as it contains copyrighted files. What brand memory stick do you have? Popsloader doesn't work with Lexar memory sticks.

Also try a different game to rule out the possibility of a bad dump.

I understand. I use a 4gb Sandisk stick.

I tried using other games to confirm there wasn't an issue. All of the games I've tried will boot without popsloader, some of them just won't do much from then on (Vagrant Story hangs on the first load screen.)

I noticed 3 different options in PSAR depending on which key you pressed, could using the wrong option have dumped unusable prx files?

Yes, popsloader only works with decrypted modules. You have to press square.

If you try redumping the files again make sure to delete the F0 folder on your memory stick, since I don't think PSARDumper will overwrite the old files.

Hey, well I've already gotten PopsLoader on my 3.90M33-2 PHAT PSP and it's running great =), I'd just like to know for my friends sake, if this works on the Slim(PSP-2000). Because she kind of wants Crash Bandicoot and I don't want to bust up her PSP ^-^;; So is it safe to install Popsloader?

Thanks,

The EBOOT.PBP isn't in the correct location then or it is not named correctly. Make sure you aren't placing it in MP_ROOT... it should go directly on the memory stick drive, not in any folders.

Great guide!! Thank you so much :)

One quick question though:

I've followed through all the steps, but I still haven't placed a psx game onto the memory stick yet.
However, before I do so, I noticed that when I'm browsing through the XMB, I notice in the game folder, there's the NEW PSR DUMPER. Just randomly sitting there, no specific icon. I've finished using it, since I already completed all the steps and finished enabling popsloader.

Should I just leave the folder there or can I delete it now?

I have POPS enabled in the recovery menu and I've tried holding R down when selecting the game but I never get the menu. Anyone got ideas? I got it to work finally. It was the size of the memory stick...apparently it won't work with anything over 4gb. However I have a new issue that arises. I'm also using the CXMB software and when it's on the memory card that POPS is, POPS won't work.

I've tried disabling CXMB and deleting the conf.bin file and then retrying but nothing seems to make a difference. Anyone else come across this?

Ah okay. Well, I would try formatting the stick, copy over popsloader first, then copy all your other files over. Not really sure why some people have trouble with this plugin. It seems to be very sensitive to memory stick speed though, and the changes Sony made to the MS driver in firmware 3.80+ haven't helped.

It definitely works. If the menu doesn't show it could be due to a slow / fake memory stick. You can try formatting the memory stick then place the popsloader files on first and see if that helps. Also try installing the FATMS patch available here:

Just like to say here that I had a lot of issues trying to get this to work, but finally got it to work..

I have an 8GB official Sony memory stick, and read a post in this thread saying that they don't work with popsloader for whatever reason. I had done everything as instructed, but I never got the Popsloader menu coming up. In the end, I applied the fatmspatch (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5687), deleted cxmb and irshell from my memory stick, and re-copied the popsloader files over (3.71 for FF7). And it worked!

Is there a pops mod that takes you through a menu automatically instead of pressing "R". I been trying to play resident evil for 2 days straight and am really at my minds end.

It crashes at the Playstation screen. I've tried 3 different versions of Resident Evil and tried pops but could never access the menu. I swtiched memory cards to see if there was a problem with my memory card and the problem remains.

I doubt its the firmware cause I haven't encountered any other problem with it.

But the main thing that keeps in a panic is what you mentioned that the psx gamesave logo of castlevania was present in 3.80 but was fixed in 3.90 and the fact that I couldn't even access the pops menu.

Please and kind of help would get, I'm at my wits end.

If you've followed everything in this thread and nothing's worked I would try reformatting a 2gb sony mem stick and installing POPS on it. Put nothing else on the memory stick plugin wise, like the CXMB program or the IR SHell program. I've got POPS working on both my 3.80 m33-5 (FAT) and my 3.90 m33-2 (Slim). I think the key is to have a fresh mem stick (official from Sony cause certain ones don't work) and nothing above 4 gb. The highest I've used is a 4gb but the first successful attempt was on a 2gb. Try that and see if that doesn't resolve the issue.

As for the Castlevania logo gamesave, I've got that and my POPS still works fine. I've played RE2, Musashi and FF 7 & 8 with almost no problems. Hope some of this helps you if not post back and we can try something else.

Okay, let's get the basic questions out of the way.
First off, what type of memory stick is it? Because it seems that POPS is pretty particular and doesn't like Lexar. I would suggest a Sony 2gb stick. Their pretty cheap (20?) and seem to work great for POPS.
Second, What exactly do you have on the memory stick? Is it just POPS or do you have something else on the stick besides the EBOOTS?
Third, When are you pressing R to activate the POPS menu? Your supposed to hold R as you select and hold it down till the menu pops up.

That should cover all the basics. For some reason POPS is really finicky on anything above 3.80. I'm sure you know this but you can use POPS loader for any past cfw above 3.72.

First, what brand memory stick do you have? Popsloader won't work if booted from a Lexar branded stick.

Secondly, are you sure that you dumped the files as decrypted when using PSARDumper?

Also, are the files named correctly? The following files should be located in your seplugins/popsloader folder: popsman371.prx, pops371.prx, pafmini371.prx, and libpspvmc371.prx.

If that doesn't help, I'd recommend backing up all data on your memory stick and format it. Then copy over popsloader first as well as the game you are trying to run - nothing else. Oddly enough, some people have reported issues with the plugin when other applications such as CXMB are on their memory stick.

Yes, I've dumped the files, pressing square on PSARDumper, serveral times.

The files are correctly named.

This thing hangs once I press X in the popsloader list.

Did you try my last suggestion? If that doesn't help then I'd try placing the files on a different memory stick if you have another one and see how that goes.

Apart from that I've gone through everything that could cause this problem... so if it still doesn't work I'm not sure what's up.

BTW: Does it show the PSOne boot screen before freezing? Just wondering because if it does that means your popsloader configuration is fine - but it's a problem with the game itself.

You must have gotten lucky, then. There are quite a few games that only work on certain versions of Pops, or that can't run on certain versions.

please help im getting the 80010002 game could not be started error
im having this issue with psx game(eboot) only.
im running 3.90 m33-3 updated kernel 1.5 v2

i followed the all step provided here however im confused with the steps below.

4. Download the firmware update that corresponds to the version of POPS that you would like to install. Compatible firmware updates range from 3.00 to 3.72. Additionally, download links to all firmware update EBOOTs are available here.

what i did: i downloaded the 3.72.pbp

5. Copy the downloaded firmware update, named as EBOOT.PBP, over to the root of your memory stick. (X:\EBOOT.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).

what i did: renamed the doanloaded file to EBOOT.PBP and placed it on X:\
9. Look for an F0 folder on the memory stick. Inside, copy the following files to the seplugins/popsloader folder, depending on the firmware update used:

3.00 - 3.03: kd/popsman.prx, kd/meaudio.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx
3.10 - 3.30: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx
3.40 - 3.72: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx, vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

Once you've copied the files, make sure to add a version prefix at the end of the filename. i.e. if you used firmware 3.40, then rename popsman.prx to popsman340.prx, pops.prx to pops340.prx, and so on.

what i did: i copied the following files, placed them on the seplugins folder and attached 372 at the end of the file name like popsman.prx to popsman372.prx and so on.
3.72:
kd/popsman.prx,
kd/pops.prx,
vsh/module/pafmini.prx,
vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

please advice and thanks in advance

please help im getting the 80010002 game could not be started error
im having this issue with psx game(eboot) only.
im running 3.90 m33-3 updated kernel 1.5 v2

i followed the all step provided here however im confused with the steps below.

4. Download the firmware update that corresponds to the version of POPS that you would like to install. Compatible firmware updates range from 3.00 to 3.72. Additionally, download links to all firmware update EBOOTs are available here.

what i did: i downloaded the 3.72.pbp

5. Copy the downloaded firmware update, named as EBOOT.PBP, over to the root of your memory stick. (X:\EBOOT.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).

what i did: renamed the doanloaded file to EBOOT.PBP and placed it on X:\
9. Look for an F0 folder on the memory stick. Inside, copy the following files to the seplugins/popsloader folder, depending on the firmware update used:

3.00 - 3.03: kd/popsman.prx, kd/meaudio.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx
3.10 - 3.30: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx
3.40 - 3.72: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx, vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

Once you've copied the files, make sure to add a version prefix at the end of the filename. i.e. if you used firmware 3.40, then rename popsman.prx to popsman340.prx, pops.prx to pops340.prx, and so on.

what i did: i copied the following files, placed them on the seplugins folder and attached 372 at the end of the file name like popsman.prx to popsman372.prx and so on.
3.72:
kd/popsman.prx,
kd/pops.prx,
vsh/module/pafmini.prx,
vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

please advice and thanks in advance

Well the 80010002 error has nothing to do with popsloader. Are you sure you aren't running the PSOne games from the 1.5 kernel? Try making a GAME380 folder and place your PSOne games in there.

Are you looking in the correct folder? They have to be there... if not, try dumping the EBOOT again.

while dumping there's a psar decode error pos 0Xsmthsmth.

Maybe the 3.72 EBOOT you downloaded is corrupted. I would try re-downloading it.

I'm running 3.90m33-3 with the cmx plugging. Popsloader won't even show the R button menu, I've been trying to run metal gear solid (normal version and a remake) and neither will get past the blank screen after the sony logo.
Any idea whats going on? :(
I'm making a backup atm, I'll try installing just the popsloader and mgs once its done.

Thxs for the noobproof guide of installing pops. My problem is I already have pops and cwcheats working but when I transfer my memory card (with both stuff) to another psp, that psp cannot detect either pops or cwcheats. I tried disabling/enabling them even installing pops and cwcheats onto that psp with another memory card to no avail. I deleted the config.exe on both stuff on my memory card which neither worked. The only difference is the working psp was 3.90 while the problem psp is 3.71. Any advice?

Using the popsloader for 3.80/3.90 M33 won't work with 3.71. But that doesn't explain why it isn't showing up in the plugin selection menu.

What do you have in your game.txt, vsh.txt, and pops.txt configuration files on the problem PSP?

I think you misunterstood. The plugins do appear in recovery mode but the psp just can't detect pops when I hold the R button down. Is there pops for 3.71 then? Slightly off-topic but why can't cwcheats also work on the psp?

Yes, it was released with 3.71 M33-3.

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=4405

Just replace all the files located in the seplugin folder of the archive and popsloader should work fine. As for CWCheat, try using an older version as well, the newer builds probably haven't been tested on 3.71 M33.

Here's a link to 0.2.0: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=4983

10. Now enable the plugin. To do this, boot your PSP into recovery mode by holding R when turning the power switch on, then enter plugins, and enable popsloader.prx. Exit recovery mode.

i CAN'T MOVE DOWN the button down to go into plugin

I'm almost certain you did not copy it over correctly.

Again, make sure "newpsardumper" is in your GAME folder. If you copied over "M33_NEWPSARDUMPER" it will show corrupt data, as the EBOOT.PBP is not located in that folder.

ok now i got a question here.

im new to the plugin stuffs and i really want to play ff7 in my psp
im running on cfw 4.01 m33-2.

so lets say i have memstick A and memstick B

first, i do all the steps in memstick A and assume i got everything to work.

now the question is:
i) can i put and run other psp iso in memstick A or is it just for psx game?
ii) if i switch to memstick B, will it screw up my psp?

im using 3.90-3m33
i have a 1gb sony memory stick
in seplugins/popsloader i have config libpspvmc372.prx, pafmini3.72.prx, pops3.72.prx and popsman3.72.prx.

my problem is that it won't let me choose the pops3.72 if that makes sense?
also when i hold r and boot up a psx game (atm im trying mgs) it won't load up the popsloader for me to choose.
annnd it has never asked me to choose a pops firmware for a particular game. so im guessing popsloader itself isnt working?

hopefully i've giving enough information. any help would be brilliant =D

Not quite sure what you're asking, but you'll need the popsloader files on each memory stick. If you switch to another stick without copying over the popsloader files, it won't screw up your PSP, but will default to the built-in POPS.

Hi x3sphere,

I'm seeing conflicting info relating to the compatibility of the latest popsloader on the 401M33-2. There are also people claiming that 401M33-2 does not need popsloader to play PS1 games ...

Is the latest DA popsloader 3.80M33v2 workable on 401M33-2 ?

Sorry guys, another noob with yet another question.
Some info upfront:

PSP Slim 3.90 M33-3 (2001)
Official Sony MSPD Card 1GB
Xandros 2.0 OS (Linux 2.6.21.4)
GPRS/GSM Dial-Up (~10 mbps)

I know this is the wrong thread to post this question in, however, it is some what relevant. I downloaded and installed popsloader according to your tut. I also downloaded every supported FW update and ripped the needed files using psardumper. I can't get past the FMV after the first Mako Reactor explosion (FFVII). I tarballed my savedgames and formatted my card and put only popsloader and FFVII Disc 1 on it. I tried re-ripping my game using cdrdao --> bchunck and changing the game id and main id (read elsewhere on the net that this helps). I tried moving the game to different folders (game, game150, game380, /dev/sdc1/slusxxxxx.pbp, etc..). for some reason the game just won't load this FMV.I have tried every FW for pops from 3.00 to 3.72 and it freezes at the same spot. I had to convert my save file a few times but the game still recognizes it so I don't think that's the problem.

At this point I am at a loss as to how to play FFVII. Any ideas....

Popsloader doesn't support the 3.90 pops. If you want to use the 3.90 pops, just run your PSOne games without the plugin activated or choose the "original from flash" option when the pops selection menu comes up, as it is built into the 3.90 M33 firmware.

Double check to make sure the 3.72 update EBOOT is named correctly. It definitely works... many people here, including myself, have used this version of PSARDumper to dump 3.72.

Actually... you have the same popsloader that's in this guide (the latest version is the only one that works with 3.80 M33-5). So if popsloader is working already, you don't need to re-download it, just start by downloading PSARDumper to dump the firmware / pops version you want to use.

Nope, it's not MP_ROOT. When someone says the root of a memory stick, they mean the top-level folder. The guide already gives you an example, after copying the seplugins folder to your memory stick the path should look similar to "X:/seplugins"

*FIRST POST*Hey ive been jumping from site to site and ive been really trying to get a reliable popsloader i mean the one thats in the guide is good, the problem that i have now is getting the menu when selecting a game.... the pop menu wont come up, i made sure the plugin is enabled many times and i used other poploaders that have multiple firmwares from 3.0-3.72 are u able to help me?
Iam currently running a Custom Firmware 3.90 m33-3 i can play most games but im trying to get chrono trigger to work, i have 2 files of chrono trigger one that says the file will not start and the other where theres no sound in the video... game im able to run really good right now is Parasite Eve and DragonBall Final Bout (JP)

I know your supposed to hold down the R button when selecting a game but the game just boots away without showing up a menu, lol im pretty sure u heard this allot and its very fustrating lol ive been at it for about 3 days now and i cant figure out what the problem is

It definitely works. If the menu doesn't show it could be due to a slow / fake memory stick. You can try formatting the memory stick then place the popsloader files on first and see if that helps. Also try installing the FATMS patch available here:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=5687

Sounds like a problem with the game you are trying to run - corrupt ISO possibly.
My psp firmware is 3.90 M33-3 and I've already installed the 3.90 popsloader plugin but Crash bandicoot doesn't work on my psp .... however other ps1 games like Resident Evil 2 work fine ... but when I start Crash bandicoot, it doesn't even display the menu to choose the right pops version for it ... it automatically turn my psp off ... it's kinda weird to me because in Resident Evil 2, I could choose the right pops version for it... I don't really know what the problem is ...?!

Hello,

I seem to be having a problem with this... amazingly early on in your tutorial. I have downloaded the Popsloader and what not (vers. 4.01). I put the files into their respective folders, great. However, when I unhook my PSP from the computer and go to my games section, it shows up as a corrupted file. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

On step 3, ensure that you copied the correct folder over to GAME. You should have copied "newpsardumper" not "M33_NEWPSARDUMPER."

When I launch PSARDumper (part 6) my PSP says "The game could not be started. (80020148)" So can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Step 9 is where I'm having trouble. I go to copy the EBOOT(I downloaded 3.90 because that's the version of my firmware, but when you said to go below 3.72, I downloaded 3.40 to replace it.) When I copy it into the main directory, in my case, I/EBOOT.PBP, it copies about 25%, hangs there saying 10 secs remaining, and then gives the following error message:

Cannot copy EBOOT: Cannot find specified file.
Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.

Then my PSP's USB mode disengages, and I am left with my menu. I go to games, go to Memory Stick, and load NEW PSRAR DUMPER, so it seems like it's working. Then when I check the F0 folder, and consequently kd/ and vsh/, I find that the files I am supposed to copy from them are not there.

What should I do?

step 4 } Download the firmware update that corresponds to the version of POPS that you would like to install. Compatible firmware updates range from 3.00 to 3.72. Additionally, download links to all firmware update EBOOTs are available here.

5.Copy the downloaded firmware update, named as EBOOT.PBP, over to the root of your memory stick. (X:\EBOOT.PBP, if X is the drive letter of your PSP).
(which firmware.. OFW or CFW)
