Japanese Ceramic White PSP1000, came with TA082 motherboard (IC1003), and 2.81 firmware. I bought a 2gb memory stick and GTA:LCS 2.0.

I used all directions from 3.03 downgrade page to get it to 1.50. I succeeded!

Then I opened 3.10-oe upgrade directions, downloaded 1.50 and 3.10 files, copied them, started oeupdmaker, it went through all the sequence and then in the end gave me "Invalid SHA-1". I patiently ran it through the same process two more times, and still the same message in the end - "Invalid SHA-1". Google didn't bring any information on Invalid SHA-1 related to PSP, neither did forums. Noticing that no one had ever mentioned that problem before, I have decided to go along with the firmware, because DATA.DXAR file was created and seemed like everything was going the way it should.

After flashing I get only black screen now, with a lonely green power led on... goodbye my PSP... $200 in the trash... :-(

Invalid SHA-1 means that the checksum of the DATA.DXAR did not match, its a rare error and would only happen in the case you have a faulty memory stick.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your brick.. the installer should not of let you proceed if it detected the invalid checksum but its possible that when you ran the flasher it detected the DXAR as ok but was corrupt when loaded into ram :/

Apparently, installer was happy with DATA.DXAR and let me proceed further, and I was assuming everything was going the way it should. Everyone should be aware of this problem, we should make it a sticky or modify instructions so people will not proceed if they bump into checksum errors.

I am off to the store to buy a regular black USA version. And seems like I will need a new memory stick too.... damn! :(

P.S. I am a programmer myself and I can help with development. Question is, is there any way at all to use my dead PSP?

The U.P. modchip can revive your PSP, there are some problems with the chip though such as not being able to recover from IDstorage bricks.

The new psp-devolution (http://psp-devolution.com/) chip can recover from these bricks. Right now there is no release date for the chip but if you think getting a chip would be a good idea I'd wait for this one.

Turns out, I did have a fake 2GB memory stick. Corrupt data, extremely low transfer speed and finally a dead PSP. Everyone should be very careful buying cheap memory sticks.
