I've had it installed for months. It makes copying files across a network much faster but aside from that I haven't noticed much of a difference. Pre-SP1 Vista was already fast for me and I never had any compatibility issues.
Either way I would install it regardless just for the improved security.

Yeah, copying files was weirdly slow the first time I tried.
Ahh, still not worth the upgrade, I guess.

no offense, but I think putting vista is actually a downgrade o.o

I will never go back to XP now that I have vista X64 SP1 installed.
My system flies and network browsing is so much faster due to the improve TCP/IP protocol
It has options of fixing your hard disks in the background plus when inserting flash memory in a USB card reader/writer if it corrupted vista will detect it and fix.
Also forget about having to install drivers for devices as it detects and installs everything I plug in to it including a 3 year old HP printer that XP can't do anything with until one installs the CD with all that HP bloated crap putting 5 shortcuts on the desktop.

Haha, you are lucky. I have an HP printer here that is about a year old and Vista doesn't auto recognize it. Have to install the 100MB+ HP drivers
I have to say though I really like Vista's interface. SuperFetch is nice too, since it caches your most used applications into RAM for faster booting.

Since vista doesn't recognize it have you tried microsoft update to see
If you could download a driver without having to install all that HP BLOAT
after the printer is connected via USB?
I also like with vista the thumbnail thing it does with media files.
I take alot of pictures with my canon SD-1000 and when you have a folder
with 1000+ image files it's nice to see more that just file names
Also with high speed internet being the standard now, Windows Vista introduces a number of new features to the TCP/IP stack, including CTCP, and TCP Window Auto-Tuning, so with XP after a format, I would have to install 2 different programs (cablenut) & (TCP optimizer) plus do numerous registry tweaks just to get the most of my connection.
With DDR2 RAM being cheap as dirt there's no reason to not have 4+ GIG
and be using anything than vista X64 ultimate IMO unless you have no spending money on newer hardware.
Plus one of ASUS newest boards at a good price
