I'm sorry to post this here, but I want a really quick answer, something is wrong with my computer. Feel free to move this thread.

Ok, a week ago my computer suddenly become slow, then I notice 3 icons on the desktop of softwares that I DID NOT install. It is distributed by some company named iSecurity. And a so called "Microsoft Security Center" keep asking me to install those 3 software, so it always pops up windows asking me. Then, it disabled my administrative functions such as Task Manager and Registry Editor. But I went online and find a way to enable Task Manager again, and I got it running again. I checked other users to see if they have this problem, but no, their Task Manager works fine. Then, it keep making my desktop go away, then my taskbar, and well, it really frustrated me!! And when I browse the web, it won't display most of the images. PLEASE HELP ME!! I'M IN A LOT OF TROUBLE!! I KEPT TRYING TO DELETE THE VIRUS USING RISING ANTIVIRUS, BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK! PLEASE HELP!!

Backup whatever info you want to save, format the harddrive, then reinstall Windows. Before putting back anything you saved, scan it for viruses. Basically, once Windows is infected, it's like Alien 2 - you gotta take off and nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Oh, when reinstalling Windows, do NOT have it hooked to an active network line. You can be reinfected before you even finish installing Windows if you do. Always keep Windows off the net until you have a firewall and virus scanner running.

As far as I know installing Win XP Sp2/Sp3 doesn't get you infected instantly. Installing Sp1 however gets you "blasted" instantly=)

I work with the IT staff at my school cleaning student machines all day. So I know a thing or two about this. If you don't want to reformat your computer download these programs and run them several times in different order.

Programs to use (all of these are 100% free):
AVG Antivirus
PC Doctor
Rogue Remover
Dr. Cureit
Trend Micro House Call (Online virus removal)
Spyware sweeper

Make sure you download them, update all the definitions, and unplug your computer from the internet(in that order) so the virus' don't redownload themselves.

Run all of these at least twice (Yes it will take a while and 3 times would be better) and you will most likely be clean.

Also run as many of them as you can in SAFE MODE and don't return to normal mode until you are done.

Good luck.

Remember, to go into safe mode, press F8 while booting

P.S: Thread moved to the right section

I find it faster and easier to reinstall the OS. Fixing the OS is going to be time consuming and in some cases might not be possible. Reinstalling would boost the PC's speed, as well as increase reliability (assuming you get all the updated drivers and hot fixes).Just remember to back up your important files before formating the PC.

Haven't really had a good anti-virus in ages I just back up everything like meticulously and when I get a virus I can't deal with I just reformat my hard disk. It has 100% success not many things can say that.

If you do this MAKE SURE you have backed up your drivers boy have I screwed myself over by not doing that.

Just nuke it. Reinstall windows. Backup your extremely important documents. It will force you to ditch the crap. If you have spare time, make a recovery partition.

I ditched the all anti virus crap. Just don't download stuff and you will never get a virus. And if you do, you will know where it came from.
