Weird problem with my computer

Recently, I notice that when I try to run a program from the desktop, the icon turn dark and nothing happens. And all of my programs that's suppose to run at start-up doesn't run at start-up anymore. And my quick launch bar in taskbar kept disappearing, every time I have to enable it and every time I restart my computer it disappear again. What is wrong?

You could have a virus... or Windows could be self-destructing. It does that after several months, depending on usage. Back when I ran Windows, I got really good at reinstalling as that is the only way to fix some problems, and a faster way to fix most problems. Unless you are a MASTER of Windows and have seen the problem before so you know just what to do, it's much quicker to reinstall Windows than to try to diagnose and fix the real problem. I don't know many tech who even try.

When you bring a computer into a shop, unless you tell them otherwise, they assume all important data is backed up, so the default "fix" for 99% of techs is reformat the harddrive and reinstall Windows. :)

This is very simple problem to solve.
First I recommend a free download called "Ccleaner"
Obviously your registry might be a mess as well as shortcuts are messed up
use the cleaner option as well as the registry cleaner option.
Also Ccleaner has a startup tab that lets you see whats being launched at startup as windows starts up.

Ccleaner is freeware and also you might want to look into "TuneUp Utlities 2008" both are good program for cleaning up windows mess.

I have TuneUp Utilities, I use it to defrag my hard drive. I like to watch the flashing dots when you defrag your hard drive.
