Changing Idstorage and Downgrading always runs the risk something goes wrong and bricks your psp. Use of these files , requires that you accept those risk, and understand you do so at your own risk.

Release notes

The files here were designed to downgrade a 2.71 ta-082, or ta-086. The included 1.5 Enabler is the latest as of 03/11/07. 1.5 enabler does NOT corrupt any keys other then necessary to run the 1.5 FW. It is also easily reversed if you choose not to run Custom Firmware any more. (This requires another file just to keep it safe for the newbies) The source files for 1.5 enabler are included.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CHARGER IN AT ALL TIMES!
Remove your umd while downgrading.
Donot power off During downgrade!

Note: If at some point your screen goes black for more then a few seconds Hit the brightness key gently a few times. Be careful not to bump the power or other buttons. In some cases the brightness goes to off.

1. Before you start, format your memory stick and reset your default settings.
A. Format MS by going to System , Format Memory Stick. press X
B. Push down to restore Factory Settings

2.Create a USB connection between your PSP and computer.

3. Download the official Sony 1.50 eboot and rename it to UPDATE.PBP, and put it in the MSroot/PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder of this download with the name of UPDATE.PBP

4.Copy the contents of the MS_root folder to your memory stick root, click yes to overwrite. Do not put the readme on the psp.

5. Run HEN-D if you are not already running it.
Simply goto photo and try to display rand. The psp should very briefly display a green screen. If it displays a red screen try again. Once you get a green screen proceed. (note rebooting your psp deactivates hend)

6. Execute the 1.5 enabler on the PSP. It needs 75% battery. It will verify/make your psp able to run 1.5 and enable downgrading the TA-082 or TA-086 PSP.
**note 1.5 enabler will tell you if you can run 1.5 or not... if it says you cannot press x to alter keys, donot continue till it says your settings will run 1.5

7. The program will exit to the XMB. Now run the generic downgrade, which will show in the XMB as “Update X.Yz” on the PSP.

8. The generic downgrader will also need 75% battery. IT will downgrade your PSP to 1.50.

9. At the end, it will ask you to press X to restart the PSP. Do it.

10. If all went fine, you’ll receive a blue screen telling you to press O. Do it, and re-enter your settings. Welcome to 1.50.

This iliminates corrupted keys from the first generation of idstorage patcher.
it does NOT fix psp that have already run idstorage patcher originally distributed with the 2.71 downgrade. It is ONLY for new users to avoid the idstorage issues. As this combines all reseach into idstorage.

This package also includes the 2.71 downgrader AND hend ... it is ONLY meant for 2.71 . And is ONLY meant for new people who still need to downgrade. None of those issues will apply to new users who downgrade using 1.5 enable.

Ok its basically true, yesterday a fixxer was released with an unknown ta-082 set of keys ( it happens to be illegal to include keys).... Which is a *possible* fix , but if used on a ta-086 after using idstorage patcher it could still lead to new corruption. I see no use for this new fixer for new users with the ability to not corrupt the idstorage in the first place (1.5 enabler) . No use i mean for NEW users who are fortunate enough to find a downgrader with the new method to begin with.

as for illegal files, they are not, particularly because they aren't dumps of the key.

dude its plain to see that Chilly has been working on this since that point (when you disowned stapol and he frustratedly released his code announcing he stopped), and developed his own code after dealing with your guys mess.

YOur app is great , which is the same thing i told Chilly over a week ago about his compilation of His isresetv7, and IDSM . Its not what we need to fix the problem. Its too complicated because of the FACT if the IDSTORAGE is Changed in a simple manner from the start you dont NEED to be able to do ANY thing BUT enable 1.5. Thus it was never released.

What needs to be done now that 1.5 enabler is here... Is to tend to the poor folks scratching their heads now wondering what do i do i already ran idChanger distributed in the current tutorials. Change said tutorials.... And service the folks with remaining issues.

Rather then responding to Glory wars .... we will continue to eliminate the issue , in the most logical method considering all we care about is fixing psp's and crediting the people who really make it possible.... ie D_A and the rest ( keeping the list short intentionally)

The problem is the mods i know were aware of this post being made almost 4 days b4 it was made. I can say this for sure because I asked permission to do the release here first, and then lagged behind ( because i took my time proofreading the post). It was known DAYS b4 the post was finally made.

Do something constructive and adapt the driver modification you did , into a similar package for 3.03 DG. No frills, just the bit swap enabling .

I see that you are right in stating that he did release a similar app before me.

In any case, the last post could have done with out accusations
(and should relize that this was not what got me angry with stapol, in fact it was much after the posts you mention), but in any case, you are correct my release was on 3/10, where his preliminary code was out on 3/4.

Not that i see it as mattering anymore. I now see my main anger was due to the fact that many did not understand that my program had the same functionality, as it was strangly portrayed on qj. (Note to self: ignore qj ;) )

I'm thinking it's as easy as using the Update x.y.z to take me down to 1.5 and then use the official Sony 2.71 firmware to restore. The PSP i have has the Ta-082/86 motherboard so I had to change the key for the downgrade. I was wandering if I should change it back after the 2.71 upgrade since I'm returning it to the store.

there's no need to downgrade back to the official FW .. stores don't check that.

Mind if i ask why you would want to do that? People dont seem to understand , the ability to return the idstorage is for IF sony ever does something to make their FW not suck. Returning to stock ids and FW is kinda comprable to hitting the psp with a hammer.

They only way to be sure you're reverting to the original keys is to dump the original keys before downgrading, then write them back after reverting back with somthing like IdStorage Manager.

Other than that, you can "fix" the keys using the keys of a stock PSP similar to your own and a program like KeyCleaner.

Revert to 2.71, then run KeyCleaner with HEND. That leaves just key 5 in the "patched" state. You can then revert key 5 by running the 1.5 Enabler from the corruption-free 2.71 downgrader package via HEND, then use the hidden "revert" feature - when on the screen that says the PSP has been 1.5 enabled, press SQUARE and it will undue the 1.5 patching. You'll be back on the screen saying a TA-082/86 can't run with the keys as they are.

That would be as close to original as you can get without having a dump of the original keys.

You might try just using key cleaner first. The problem with the PS3 is probably the USB issue people got from the 2.71 downgrader... after running the initial idstoragechanger app, the PSP had the wrong USB manufacturer ID. KeyCleaner can clean that up. After cleaning the keys, I'd bet the PS3 works with the custom firmware just fine.

Trying to get to 1.5 from a TA-082 2.71 FW...

First of all, (maybe I'm a moron, but) I don't seem to have an MS_Root folder. I have an MP_root folder and a PSP folder showing on the root drive (along with a couple of other files). I replaced the PSP folder on my newly formatted memstick with the PSP folder with the updates. No damage, but no joy.

Every time I attempt to run RAND under photos, the system freezes up. Remove power, and everything comes back up exactly as it should... no problems, and still showing FW 2.71. Any ideas?

I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong... I've been holding off on updating firmware all together, but I just picked up a LocationFree unit, and 2.8 is required. I'd rather have a custom firmware that is compatible with the LocationFree than upgrade to the latest Sony issued FW. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and lose my access to all those great homebrew apps.

Also, would I be totally f-ing myself if I found a Sony release of FW 2.8, just long enough to get my LocationFree working?

Ms root is your memory stick. that means copy the contents of the folder to the memory stick

Correctly installing CFW now is the way to go. Be patient. Seems you have made a minor error.
Loc free Is working now in 3.30 oe. so just be patient work it threw.

Either way, I appreciate the help. I'm up to 3.30 OE-A and everything seems to be working like a champ, except the LocFree... the icon doesn't seem to do anything... I'm still working on that. I'd hate to think I dropped the money on the locfree when i could have gotten a Slingbox for the same money. Slingbox is a better device, but with no PSP support... only reason I went Sony instead in the first place...

oh well... at least locfree works on my laptop...

Dark_Alex removed the Location Free functionality form the Open Edition Firmware. The only way to use Location free player is to use official Sony firmware. Hopefully we will see this feature return in a future update.

Actually, if I understand the structure properly, 3.30 OE-A doesn't have LocFree added back. The icon is there but it doesn't do anything. I looked in the flash0/vsh/resource and /module folders, and the lftv files are not there. I tried adding them back per the instructions found Here:

but it didn't work properly. Perhaps I did something wrong. Has anyone actually been able to USE LocFree under 3.30 OE-A? Maybe I didn't get a good flash... who knows.

I've had a few issues getting devhook .51 to run on 3.30 OE-A, but I think that's been my fault so far. I'm working on that, though... The newer LocFree (I use LF-B20) is supposed to run on Sony FW 2.8 or better, so that should do the trick...

Like I said, I'm also working with some other folks to dump the Japanese language file to make room, then add back LocFree to 3.30 OE-A FW permanently. This is supposed to work with 3.02-3.03, but I guess I'm the first guinea pig on 3.30... at least the only one publishing results of attempts so far... ;)

Heya thanks for the files. I just bought a new psp and it already has 2.71 on it.
I got a TA-082 it seems; having IC1003 showing from under the game cover.

I've run your steps through, and reached the Rand part. When trying to run Rand from under Photos:
--Just getting the cursor over Rand starts it (I never hit X to run Rand yet) I get a red flickering screen---> then a blue stagnant screen---> after I either have the psp shut itself down or reset itself.

I've tried it again and it just always gives me a blue screen when I put the cursor over Rand. Once, once I've had the green screen but the psp reset itself after.

I've formatted my memory card and reset the default settings and started over, but it only repeats.

Only thing to say, man, is, well, keep tryin', there have been people that have had to try 100's of times, if I'm not mistaken. Have you freshly formatted the memsticks, and reverted your PSP to 'Factory Settings'?

Some folks have found that setting a custom wallpaper helps. I had a custom wallpaper and never had any trouble getting eLoader or HEN to work. Others report that the wallpaper means you only have to try three or four times instead of 30 or 40 times.

Hey guys.
Just bought psp couple of days ago, and now im trying to get 1.5. I have the right motherboard and 2.71 ive checked lot of times, so no problem there.
the problem is: When i want to view the herd image, it shows blue and sometimes after that green screen and reboots. and when i run the 1.5 it shows
you cannot press x to alter keys, donot continue till it says your settings will run 1.5

and now i can press X but im afraid it will brick my psp, so what to do, maybe someone had the same issue, but now its solved? thnx.

Yes, you need to press X.

Anything that writes the flash has the potential to brick your PSP. However, a decently written app will only have the slimmest chance imaginable of actually doing so. The warning is there to make sure that people understand that messing with the firmware is serious business. Just because the odds are greatly against a brick doesn't mean it'll NEVER happen - bricks do occur, though rarely, and the warnings are mainly to scare people into reading more on the topic before doing anything so that they don't make foolish mistakes.

Thnx for posting a tutorial. I understand everthing from it, but I have a problem of downgrading. I format my MS and put everything back to default. When i d/l the downgrader, it says that i need to copy MS_ROOT folder so i could put it inside my psp, but in my MS, I have a MP_ROOT folder. I dont know what to do. Should I change the name of mp_root into ms_root? I need help..please:sad:

Nope, what it means is that everything INSIDE of the MS_ROOT folder should go into the root directory of your Memstick. Meaning IF your Memstick comes up as the F:\ drive, then you would copy everything INSIDE of the MS_ROOT folder to your F:\ drive. Hopefully that made sense.:smile:

And I'm saying that you drag the content OF the MS_ROOT folder ONTO your memstick. You drag the PSP folder, systemctrl.prx, pspbtknf_updater.txt, pspbtknf_game.txt, and the rest of them onto the memstick. It has nothing to do with the MP_ROOT folder. I didn't mean for that to sound mean, sorry if it came out that way.:sad:

i got a 2.71 ta-082 psp and i did the step you said but i always get the blue screen . should i wait when the blue screen starts or turn the psp off and open it then try again or what ? please someone help :sad:

If you have a 2.71 se-c then there is no need to downgrade. Just upgrade to the fw you want directly from it

is 3.52M33 like 1.50 meaning that will it make all the game i download form the net work? becouse you know i want 1.50 so i can play those games .

After around 2 months of pondering weather i should downgrade my psp or not....I FINALLY DID IT!! Currently running 1.5 FW :D

I just created this account to thank you guys for putting so much effort into this thing AND making it as user friendly as possible for n00bs like me! So thanks again! 8)

EDIT: Successfully installed CFW 3.52 M33 :D

Hey all,

The first time I tried HenD worked fine, but when i ran the 1.50 then a message came on saying "game could not be started"

So i reset to default and formatted my mem stick. Now whenever i use HenD the screen goes black instead of green/red... any ideas?

if the screen goes black, and not green, then the HEND has failed to load. that's it:)
keep trying until the green screen comes out, i tried 146 times to succeed. Good Luck!

First of all, make sure all the HEND files are in the proper place. The most common reason HEN fails is the people copy the picture files, but not the files that go into the root of the memstick. Format the memstick clean, then copy ALL the files to the proper places. You should have six files from the archive that wind up in the root of the memstick.

Assuming that's all correct, one thing that help many people is to set a custom wallpaper. People who tried it 30 or 40 times without success report success after 3 or 4 tries with a custom wallpaper.

Have done all that a few times and still goes black.

Like it has gone green and red before but for some reason now it doesnt.

Im now trying just to format it each time it doesnt work and copy them and try again and on the 3rd attempt it flashed red first, then went blue, then black... : /

when you get a green screen, and the PSP reboots back to the XMB, then it's very well succeeded. when you get the green screen and it reboots back, check if it says 2.71 HEND (or HENC) in the system version. if it does, don't close your PSP! proceed with the downgrading.

yes i know that. The only time it went green it didnt have that though.

To make sure i am was doing it perfectly, i looked at a video and downloaded the executable that puts the file in for you... still the same black screen after blue.

Ill keep trying and hope the screen colour doesnt go black at some point.

It's a little odd that one version works better than another for some people. 2.71 worked the first time when I tried it back when I first downgraded. But that's what comes from having to rely on an exploit. If Sony would just allow homebrew, it wouldn't be an issue.

MS_Root means the root of your memory stick. It has nothing to do with MP_root.
(you can delete that folder, it's useless IMO, just make a folder on the root called VIDEO and you get the same thing)

Well there should be a HEND folder inside of the Photo subsection if you followed the instructions correctly.

Are you following the 2.71 downgrade guide? It has pictures which may help.

If you're on Windows, you might try using Total Commander to copy stuff to/from the PSP. That way you never have to worry about that pathetic file manager MS has the gall to call Explorer.

It bricked while playing a game? If the hardware itself has gone bad, not even Pandora will fix it. Regardless of what happened, you should send it back to Sony as that's not normal at all.
