after running into some problems playing PlayStation games on the PSP,i think it would be a good idea to have a compatibilty list.so put up games you have played and know to work or not work, what region they are and if they don't work, say what's wrong.

[ Alien Trilogy ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Alundra ] NTSC - Works Under all current POPS versions. Glaring graphical glitch on title screen using POPS 3.10 and 3.11. Also, lots of ghosting occurs due to the PSP's hardware. increasing the Blackness Level to +1 seems to clear it up a bit.

I'm running 3.03 OE-C and Silent Hill runs perfectly fine. Both with and without CWCheats 1.7.

Perhaps there is a new issue with 3.10 ??

Asteroids: NTSC= Runs perfectly.
**Break Out: NTSC= Runs fine. Missing audio (Sound effects work, no music).
Bust a Move 4: NTSC= Runs fine, whole CD image needed to pass developer screen, missing audio (Sound effects work, no music).
Cool Boarders 2: NTSC= Runs fine. Missing audio (Sound effects work, no music).
Crash Bandicoot 2: PAL= Runs perfectly. Y-axis patch used for NTSC viewing.
**Dead or Alive:NTSC= Runs fine. Missing audio (Sound effects work, no music).
F1 2000: NTSC= Runs fine. Loading bar buggy, only noticable issue, doesn't affect gameplay.
Fisherman's Bait: NTSC= Runs Perfectly. *Not worth having, you need to constantly tap O button to reel fish in.
Frogger: NTSC= Runs perfectly.
Gran Turismo: NTSC= Runs perfectly.
Gran Turismo 2 "Simulation Mode" (Disc 2): NTSC= Runs perfectly.
Jet Moto 3: NTSC= Rnns Perfectly.

First post!

[ Threads of Fate ] NTSC - Works perfectly!
[ Star Ocean: The Second Story] NTSC - Works, but with some minor graphical errors. I've read elsewhere (don't remember where) that it is confirmed to work all the way to the end of the first disc. Been a while since I played it. If it's one of those games that goes to the 'insert disc' screen without letting you save first, that's where it's no longer compatible.

I'd try out more out of my plethora of PS1 games (mostly RPGS), but that would take time, which I don't have due to college. Though spring break is next week. I might transfer the entire contents of my 4GB MemoryStick to my hard drive, wipe, then use the entire 4 GB to go on a POPs testing spree. :D

It has occurred to me that since we can load any pops from 3.00+ with Popsloader, that if we encounter any problems with running a game on a certain version of POPS, we should say so. As well as which version(s) we got the game to run on.

Technically, you'd think that any game working perfectly on earlier versions of POPS would run just as perfectly on the 3.11 version of POPS. Unfortunately, like any software, this is not always the case. In addition, since the majority of these games are not the official Playstation Store POPS titles, Sony would never notice that by modifying their emulator code, they broke one of the titles that they don't provide. Nor would they, in all likelihood, care.

Well, the most important is the versions of POPS that a game is confirmed to run on with minimal problems. For the record, however, I've tried Star Ocean: The Second Story and Threads of Fate on 3.10 and 3.11 POPS, and I noticed no differences. Makes sense. The only difference between those two versions is a small compatiblity fix for a couple Playstation Store titles. The fewer modifications made, the less chance there is to break something.

I'm in the final dungeon of Legend of Heroes III right now. When I'm done, I'll probably start my POPS experimenting.

EDIT: Apparently, using POPS 3.03 or below does not produce at least the first graphical error I encountered in Star Ocean: The Second Story. (When Claude gets teleported at the beginning of the game, there's some transparency issues in POPS 3.10 and 3.11)

EDIT EDIT:

[ Alundra ] NTSC - Works Under all current POPS versions. Glaring graphical glitch on title screen using POPS 3.10 and 3.11. Also, lots of ghosting occurs due to the PSP's hardware. increasing the Blackness Level to +1 seems to clear it up a bit.

[ Azure Dreams ] NTSC - Works Perfectly Under all current POPS versions.

[ Brigandine ] NTSC - I believe it works. I never did like the game. Confirmed that it DOES make it into the game, however. POPS 3.00-3.03: Intro movie gets garbled when you press start to end it prematurely. All POPS 3.00-3.11: Title screen appears for a second or less, then the intro movie starts back up again. Might want to consider this UNCONFIRMED. I never had a legit copy, and the file I downloaded ages ago to burn the CD from may have been slightly corrupted. (It took Clone CD over an hour to make the image for my POPS test!)

[ Harvest Moon: Back to Nature ] NTSC - Works. All Current POPS versions: Noticable music slowdown during load times between screens. (randomly goes from slow to normal speed during load times.)

[ Megaman Legends ] NTSC - Works Perfectly using any current POPS version! Optional: Use Remapsp under the CWCheat plugin to customize a more comfortable control scheme...

[ Megaman Legends 2 ] NTSC - Works Perfectly using any current POPS versions! Optional: Remapsp for better controls...

Note that unless you ordered a PSP that has custom firmware pre-installed, or the PSP comes with 3.03 firmware or below (and you know how to downgrade and install custom firmware), you won't be able to test (or play) any PS1 games other than those purchased from the PS3 store.

Just thought I should warn you about that in case you were unaware. A suprisingly large number of people are. o.O

Hey all,

Here is a question I probably should have asked prior to converting my old PS1 games into EBOOTS...

I am running 3.10 OE, how do I actually run the PSX games on the FW. Do I just put the EBOOTS into x:PSP/GAME folder, and boot like an ISO? or is there a different process.

Thanks

Games I've tested with 3.02/3.03/3.10 OE:

[ Alien Trilogy ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ D ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Darkstalkers ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Destruction Derby 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Doom ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops with CDDA. No CDDA hangs at loading screen.
[ Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Final Doom ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops with CDDA. No CDDA hangs at loading screen.
[ Gex 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Jumping Flash! 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Kileak ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Kingsfield 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Kingsfield 2 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Lemmings 3D ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Loaded ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops with CDDA. No CDDA hangs.
[ Macross VFX2 ] NTSC-Jap Works fine with all pops.
[ Powerslave ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Primal Rage ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Rayman 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops with CDDA. No CDDA hangs.
[ Ridge Racer 1 ] NTSC-Jap Works fine with all pops. Needs CDDA for BGM.
[ Ten Pin Alley ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Tomb Raider 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops with CDDA. No CDDA hangs when starting level.
[ Tomba! 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with 3.10+ pops. Hangs in cut-scense for earlier pops.
[ Twisted Metal 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops. Needs CDDA for BGM.
[ Twisted Metal 2 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops. Needs CDDA for BGM.
[ Warhawk ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Wild9 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.
[ Wipeout 1 ] NTSC-US Works fine with all pops.

I may have missed one or two in there that need CDDA... generally speaking, if a game has CD audio tracks, it will likely hang if you don't make the EBOOT with CDDA. Some will work without the CD audio tracks, you just don't get BGM. Ripping as ISO, then converting is the leading cause of losing CDDA. Always rip as raw/game disc, then convert.

You're welcome. I don't know why others haven't contributed. I know I've seen many posts about games that aren't on the list. I only included games I converted and ran personally that weren't already on your list (had a bunch of others already there).

An example of what I've seen - the NTSC-US version of Ridge Racer 1 doesn't work as a straight rip - you have to rip the files off the ISO, add a big dummy file, then reconstruct the disc image. At least, that was the way it was for 3.02/3.03. I haven't seen any posts about it and 3.10. I don't have the US version, just the Japanese version (got it and Japanese PSX on release day from a distributor we worked with in Japan as a bonus to a project we did for them). So I can state that the Japanese version works great, but I don't have first hand info on the US version - only what I've read.

EDIT: Oh, by the way, another game I tried... [ Road Rash ] NTSC-US Works fine on all pops.

With the the 3.30 decrypter out now, anyone try 3.30 POPS? It should theoretically be possible. I don't know if Popsloader will notice it, even though it says "and future pops" in the readme. But you can still take the 3.30 pops files and flash those into 3.10 OE-A. (BACK-UP FIRST!) Doing so will either work, or break Pops. If it breaks Pops, just place the original 3.10 or 3.11 Pops back in.

I'd do it right now, but I'm currently at my college campus. While I have my PSP, laptop, and USB cable with me, all my Pops are currently on an external hard drive at home. If it works, It'd be an awesome customization to 3.10 OE-A until 3.30 OE-A is out, since you can place the 3.10 pops on the memorystick for popsloader. Thus having options to load pops for 3.00, 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.10, 3.11, and Original from Flash (3.30!)

EDIT: Nope. replacing with 3.30 makes it crash when loading POPS.

POPS is the part of the firmware that emulates PS1 games. In essence it's an official PS1 emulator for the PSP from Sony itself. Without it, you cannot run the converted POPS eboots. And without OE custom firmware, you can only run PS1 games that you have puchased from the PS3 store, even if you own the original PS1 disc(s).

yes,it's built in...it's a feature that was added in the 3.00 firmware along with the release of the ps3 i think

Is there a way to counter this?? It would be a big help becuase I am reaching 2nd disc points on both Xenogears and the above mentioned Metal Gear.

just gotta make sure the Game ID of the second disc is the same as the one you used in the first. PSX2PSP lets you edit this when converting a game.

Metal Gear Solid - works on 3.10OE both discs

save game just prior to switch disc (just after killing sniper wolf) and will load on the new disc

switch controllers when facing psycho mantis, by pushing home button and switiching the controller ports

EDIT: May need to use CWCHEAT for disk change , link to how here: http://www.************/forums/post387-140947.html

[Final Fantasy 8 NTSC] Works fine, but crashes when you use a spell

Tested with 3.03 POPS

Also on 3.02. I just found out the hard way when the serpent during the SeeD exam used a spell. Trying 3.01 now, hopefully 3.01 or 3.00 will work fine. 3.10+ has weird coloring on the overworld, and besides the fact that it crashes on 3.03, the opening pictures have lines through them.

EDIT: It may only be certain spells, at least with 3.02 and 3.01. Fire, Thunder, and Cure work fine.

EDIT EDIT: Huh, didn't crash in 3.01 when the serpent used Dark Mist. But then it didn't zoom in on it when it cast, either.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: BAD NEWS! FF8 is CONFIRMED to freeze up during the training zone boss battle (second battle with the 'boss' music.) When the boss monster attacks, there is a HIGH chance of it locking up. I'm gonna put camera movement to 0% and see if that has anything to do with it.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: Nope! putting the camera to 0% does not fix it. 100% SCREWED. D'oh! FF8 Confirmed NOT PLAYABLE after second boss! Hopefully whatever code is being called will be supported by 3.30 POPS. We'll just have to wait for 3.30 OE-A and see...

I see Legend of Dragoon NTSC says it works perfectly. Not entirely true! If you clock the CPU over 266, the game will at random decide to cut the sounds off early, and will stay that way once it starts doing so. Example: voice sample "Volcano!" cuts out at "Volc".

I use CWCheat to clock the CPU. (I don't say 'overclock' because that's not entirely true, the PSP was MADE to be clocked up to 333.)

I'm not sure if the settings in Recovery affect the clockspeed in POPS, as it merely says "UMD/ISO" or "XMB".

Note that clocking to the usual 222 in Legend of Dragoon will cause the sound to go all staticy. Anything BELOW that, and it's no longer full speed.

I might check later to see if my FF8 freeze is also related to clocking over a certain amount....EDIT: Nope.

EDIT EDIT: As much as I'd like to bump since this information is kinda important, I'd prefer not to double post if it can be avoided.

I have encountered the above sound problems with Legend of Dragoon NTSC ALSO with the CPU at 266. If I can find a way to prevent the problem from showing up, I'll let you guys know.

Also note that my suggestions to use Remapsp to create a better control scheme for Megaman Legends and Megaman Legends 2 are currently impossible, until the authors or Remapsp get it working under POPS.

Okay, guys, jeez, it took long enough. I know I posted over a week ago about testing games, sorry it took so long. I finally got my PSP and 4GB memory stick:-D , and I'm ready to rock. Here's what I've tested, all by myself. I'm running 3.03 OE-C, and I've played each one for at least an hour or so just to make sure they work in most of the screens/situations of the game (battle, status, world map, etc.). All games are NTSC-U unless otherwise noted.

Arc the Lad: Perfection.
Arc the Lad 2: Perfect.
Arc the Lad 3 CD1: Perfect. Dunno about switchin discs.
Armored Core: Perfect.
Armored Core- Project Phantasma: Perfect.
Battle Hunter: Perfectly, awesome to play with friends because all players use the same 'controller'.
Beyond the Beyond: Perfect.
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain: Perfect.
Brave Fencer Musashi: Freezes after Intro.
Castlevania SotN: Works perfectly, wasn't far enough for wolf transformation.
Chocobo Dungeon: Perfect.
Clock Tower 1: Perfect.
Diablo: Freezes at loading screen
Digimon Digital Card Battle: Perfect.
Digimon World 1: Perfect.
Digimon World 2: Perfect.
Digimon World 3: Perfect.
Einhander: Perfect, but I'm playing a RIP without the music.
Eternal Eyes: Some transparency issues, but other than that perfect.
Final Fantasy VIII: Ya know, I've heard alot of people having problems with this, but I played it for, oh, 2 hours or so, went through the fire cave, drew/casted magic and everything. It never froze or anything, worked perfectly. Although I cannot vouch for the training area boss freezing thing, didn't make it that far.
Final Fantasy Tactics: Works perfectly, harder than I remember, though, cpu must get a tactical boost from the PSP processing power, lmao.
Gran Turismo 2 CD2 (sim disc): Perfect.
Gundam Battle Assault 2: Perfect.
Hoshigami- Ruining Blue Earth: Perfect.
Hot Shots Golf: Works perfectly.
King's Field (US): Some very slight slowdowns, but gameplay is perfect.
Legend of Legaia: Some gfx glitches, but very playable.
Legend of Mana: Good, although there are some weird splotches of glitch when you hit with the last hit of your combo, and also when you're using special moves. They go away a few seconds later, and although they're fairly obstructing of your view, they it don't make it unplayable.
Mega Man 8: Perfect.
Mr. Driller: Perfect.
Panzer Bandit (NTSC-J): Perfect.
Parasite Eve (Discs Combined): Perfect.
Persona: Perfect.
Saga Frontier: Certain textures and backdrops not there, pretty unplayable. Didn't make it to battle. Anyone know if this works on a newer version? this is one of my favorite games.
SaGa Frontier 2: Perfect.
Shadow Tower: Perfect, suprisingly, although looking up down (R2 L2) you use the analog stick left and right, it's just odd.
Spec Ops Airborne Commando: Perfect, although sneaking is hard (have to hold L2)
Strider 2: Perfection, albeit some slight slowdowns. Very badass, btw, try it if you never have.
Suikoden 2: Works perfectly, although I've read about the first boss crashing, didn't make it that far.
Tales of Destiny: Perfect.
Umihara Kawase Shun (NTSC-J): Perfect.
Vampire Hunter D: Works perfect.
Vandal Hearts 2: A few shading graphical glitches, but nothing that takes away from the gameplay at all, almost perfect.
Wild Arms: Works perfectly.
Wild Arms 2 CD1: some menu flickering problems in battle, but other than that, perfect! Dunno 'bout switchin discs, though...

Also, I have a question, is there a way to load a more recent version of POPS on 3.03OE-C? Because I've seen Popsloader for 3.10OE-A, but I've also read numerous problems about 3.10OE, so I'm sticking with 3.03OE for now... Just wonderin if there is some way and I'm just not findin' it.

Reposting this from another thread.

I encountered a problem on 3.30 and 3.40 OE's Popstation. If you're playing Final Fantasy 7 (US version, NTSC, SCUS94163), and if you encounter a Gagighandi (the dragon like creature) or Touch Me (frog like creature), and they perform certain types of attacks on your characters, the screen becomes garbled and the system becomes unplayable. You need to restart FF7.

Works fine on 3.10 OE-A' though.

Ah. When I first saw his post in another thread, and I directed him here, I coulda sworn FF7 wasn't on the list for some odd reason. o.O

But yeah, I'd say 'works fine on 3.10 pops. Currently, all other pops versions have issues.'

Can you pinpoint exactly what freezes the game (i.e. certain actions from certain units), or is it just at random? If it happens quite frequently, like, say, within 5-10 minutes of gameplay, someone could test it on earlier versions of POPS.

Assuming you actually own the game, try ripping a new image of the CD. Your current image may be corrupt.

Tip: If you get an Error 80000004 while trying to play PSX games on you PSP then make sure you have applied the OE-B Patch. Even if you think you are running OE-B find and apply the patch anyways it will fix everything ;)

It used to crash when the teams tossed a coin. the only game mode that worked was classic match mode.

if I use icetea 1.3 to convert the iso to BRIAN LARA CRICKET SLES 00759, is their a chance to fix the coin tossing error?

I'd like a psp cricket game!

no,all the EBOOTS created with PSX2PSP will work on all custom firmware as far as i know. if you've tried ISO's other than Brave Fencer and they work then i would say it might be a bad rip of the game disc. you should try cleaning the disc and ripping it again. also, some games do require a different Game ID since Sony has put in patches for certain games in pops (the playstation emulator). you can find them here (http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=1716)

It's been my goal to get this one working. I'm running a FAT PSP using cfw 3.80 M33-5 and using a clean rip from the original Musashi disc. If you use the Game ID, SLPS01222 and then use POPS to choose version 3.40 the game plays perfectly! Finally one of the best PS1 games is playable on a portable basis.

Once i've completed the entire game I'll post that it works 100% but up to this point I've had zero problems.

I did have issues with Legend of Legaia. Has anyone else had the game freeze on the training battle on the beach with the monk? I'm using POPS 3.10 and it locks every time.

Final Fantasy VII[NTSC]: Tested with cfw 3.90-M33 on pops 3.4 with a fat 1001 psp. Works good. Still, very playable, and after time the glitches are barely noticeable, the sound problem is not very common. Note: I have not completed the game yet, so this test is not technically done.
