Dead Space and Mirror's Edge are about the only "innovative" games in that bunch. EDIT: Kinda sucks there's no PC port of this game. :(

Arctic Cooling is nice. I have nowhere near as fancy of a fan + heatsink as that, since I have a stock one on my 4670, but I get 52 Celsius on load with about a 10-15% overclock.

There's always the option of overclocking. If you overclock it to about 3 GHz, the bottleneck may start disappearing. After all, it's still a Dual Core and it's also a black edition, so you can raise the multiplier.

Well, not really. 3DMark06 heavily weighs the video card. Your processor really doesn't factor into it as much. The way you calculate your 3DMark06 score is by adding up your SM and your HDR scores and dividing by 2. This is your GS score. You get your CPU score by adding the two frame...

My score's a 8908, but the Radeon HD 4670 usually scores around 10,000. I don't know what's going on here. I'm running a Athlon II X4 at 3.25 GHz.

Intels overclock really well. You should be able to get yours to about 3.3-3.5 GHz without much issue. Although if you want to do about 3.5, you might have to up voltage for stability.

You have a P45 board, it should overclock pretty well. How good is your power supply? You'll have to play with the voltage sooner or later. If you don't OC the RAM, your FSB wall is 400 MHz. So you might want to consider that.

At the amount of money he's willing to spend, an AMD Phenom II is a decent choice. There's nothing wrong with AMD, they're just as good as Intel at the entry and mid-range levels.
