I have it but same as you, more for my son than anything else.
 
Yeah, DS only supports no encryption or WPA. WPA isn't supported unfortunately, so you'll have to change your router settings to go online.
 
do you have the original game or a copy?

and you have to transfer the ID from the DS to the DSi to make it work, I think.
 
then like I said, you might have to transfer the settings and ID from one to another, check the game's manual on how to do that
