Normally, I would not even give a game like Grand Theft Auto IV the time of day, blog-wise, however, this matter warrants a post.

As many of us in the IGN community are aware, Grand Theft Auto IV, for the Playstation 3 and XBox 360, received the first 10 out of 10 in nearly a decade. Under normal circumstances I would not even give the slightest darn about a review score, as my personal game-purchasing is never based on review scores. However, this issue is not about my game-purchasing.

IGN is, arguably, the world's biggest video game website; it certainly is highly influential. And while there are folks, such as myself, who do not base their game-purchasing on review scores, there are numerous people who do select their games based on the evaluations that IGN has declared. There are multitudes of people who think along the lines of, "If IGN says this game is a 10 out of 10, then it must be a keeper". And that is exactly how people are going to approach Grand Theft Auto IV. Millions of human beings are eventually going to have a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV in their households due to the series' popularity as well as its critical praise. This is most unfortunate.

Why is it unfortunate? I shall not deny that the 10/10 score is possibly deserved for technical achievements such as graphics, sound gameplay mechanics, etc. However, we, as a society have become so desensitized to the differences between right and wrong that we are willing to give a 10/10 praise to a game that flat out glorifies deep sin. This 10/10 score reinforces the incorrect popular message that things such as murder, sex outside of marriage, profanity, drunkenness, homosexuality, drug abuse, etc, are perfectly fine and good entertainment. Incorrect. Those things are wrong, always have been wrong and always will always be wrong. Sin is sin. The LORD does not change. The fact that a game such as Grand Theft Auto IV is regarded as "masterful" is a clear indication that our society has become more rotten than a worm-infested apple core.
While multitudes of homes are about to be the dwelling places of this wretched, sin-glorifying title, what ought to be the case instead is these same people being set free from sin (as we have all committed sin) instead of being fed something that tries to encourage, glorify and legitimize sin.
Mind you, Grand Theft Auto IV is not the only guilty party; it is but a mere example. Numerous other video games, movies, musical recordings, etc, are in this same category.

This situation is clearly disheartening though not surprising considering the ungodly times we live in. We must be reminded of what the Word of God says here:

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them."

If you are a Christian, please do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy/play Grand Theft Auto IV or any game like it. It is NOT God's will for you to partake of this game; I assure you. The following is a saddening truth, but there are gamers out there, who consider themselves to be Christians, and are still planning to buy this game. This game has nothing worthwhile for you and it completely stands for everything against what your life represents. As a Christian, your life represents the LORD.

I know that this is against the rules, sorry, mods.BUT I feel like discussing it.
Seriously, I play this kind of games since I was 10/11 and I do not feel the urge to kill people.Why are there people who feel like this kind of games can make a perfect healthy human being, all of the sudden, have the urge to kill other humans? That's total overkill, IMO.


So, if I play Pacman, I will be in dark rooms eating oranges and ghosts?

although some points do ring through about society....even in the last 10 years in my area i've noticed children swearing at a younger and younger age....and being violent...it's not explicitly the fault of videogames like GTA though...

I don't think that's really the parents fault.I mean, I grow up playing violent games, such as GTA, and I'm perfectly normal teenager (I hope so ). I don't feel any desire to kill anyone.

About the video games influencing people to kill shit... If the person playing the game is stupid/retarded enough to think that killing someone is right, well they would probably have already been getting help for their tardness.
