The latest issue of PC Gamer magazine is making the bold claim that its August issue, which is scheduled to hit newsstands around the end of next month June, will feature "a top-secret cover story so huge [they] had to go to [CENSORED] to get it."
Blizzard's annual Worldwide Invitational, as you may already know, is also being held near the end of June -- June 28 through 29 in Paris, to be specific.
Fan site Blizzplanet points out that Diablo II shipped in North America on June 29, 2000. The game's expansion, Lord of Destruction, was released in Europe a year later on the same exact day. Additionally, the site takes note of PC Gamer's usage of the word "[CENSORED]" -- does the mag mean to say hell? In which case, it would seem likely that they are referring to Diablo.
Blizzard, for its part, maintains that it is not working on a third installment in the highly-acclaimed Diablo series.
"We definitely appreciate that the community has a lot of interest in seeing the Diablo series continue, and we certainly share that desire." said a Blizzard spokesperson. He added, "For now, though, our focus remains on StarCraft II and Wrath of the Lich King. I'm afraid I don't have any new plans to announce at this time."
