We knew it was coming by way of investor conference calls, but Activision finally made it official today: Guitar Hero IV, now titled Guitar Hero World Tour, will hit the PlayStation 3, PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii this fall.
In addition to a retooled guitar controller and microphone, the title promises to deliver the "most realistic drum experience ever in a video game," with a drum kit that features three pads, two raised cymbals and a bass kick pedal.
Furthermore, World Tour will include a myriad of new gameplay modes such as Battle of the Bands, which allows eight players to challenge each other online in a jam-packed musical competition. Additionally, the game will feature a Music Studio mode which enables players to create their own music by utilizing the available instruments. Creations can be shared online with friends and other gamers through a service dubbed "GHTunes."
Neversoft Entertainment is handling development duties on the 360 and PS3 edition of the game, while Vicarious Visions and Budcat are working on the Wii and PS2 versions, respectively. Activision made clear that the Wii version will include downloadable content.
The full, lengthy press release can be found after the jump.
