Released back in 1998, today marks the tenth anniversary of Valve Software's epic first-person shooter Half-Life. And what better way to celebrate than with all-new screenshots of Black Mesa Source, an independent fan modification aimed at recreating the original game in the technologically superior Source engine, complete with revamped visuals and enhanced AI.

Years in the making, the Black Mesa Source team is still plugging away at this Half-Life remake, and it's looking better than ever -- now running on the Orange Box variation of the Source engine.[blockquote2]Our programmers have been hard at work overhauling and expanding the AI, and lots of our NPCs have been brought to life by our talented voice actors. Levels and chapters continue to be worked on and fine tuned, with large sections strung together and playable. We've also begun tackling the final content of the game, some of the most creative and technically challenging stuff we've had to do yet. And team members across the board continue to push the envelope and redefine what's possible in a Source game.[/blockquote2]Check out the drool-inducing screenshots after the jump! Although it's a fan-made modification now, I have to wonder if Valve will end up officially licensing this. It looks that good. Seriously.
