Anyone having major issues with steam?

I'm not sure whats up but myself and a few others keep having issues with our steam not showing the friends list despite being online.

Yeah that's been happening to me in Alien Swarm.

I just want more weapons dammit.

Steam randomly freezes for a few seconds at a time on my computer. I'm not a fan of this new interface. But I'm having no problem with my friends list.

EDIT: I take that back, I just randomly lost my steam connection.

It seems to have been fixed now. I just played Alien Swarm for about an hour and it was fine.

looking at the stats page, Steam: Game and Player Statistics , it looks like there was a major problem at around 2am GMT with the Steam servers :\

Yes, that's true but I thought the steam network would of used multiple data centres so that if just one of those data centres/servers went down that it wouldn't affect the network so badly. There looked to be around 60~70% of players disconnected at the same time for about an hour and half.
