I've only ever used PuTTy at work for ssh telnet sessions. I wouldn't class it as a useful app for the average user at all. Unless it has some extra functionality that I've missed.

Connecting to seedboxes, I'd say that's what RoBz was going for. That's not an extra function though, just a useful application of the example you gave.
