Indie City of Steam: a Steampunk-ish MMO Heading towards Alpha

*To begin with, big thanks extended to x3sphere, who gave me the permission to post about our game here.

For anyone interested in a lightweight and thus very accessible browser-based, industrial fantasy/steampunk-ish MMORPG with loads of content and a unique world, you might want to check out City of Steam. It's made by an indie developer, and despite being browser-based, thanks to Unity 3D it looks quite impressive; the world, for example, is a huge mechanism of gears and spokes, as seen in the the following image:

(click here to view the gigantic machine in 3D animation!)

This world is full of both magical and mechanical monstrosities, clockwork wonders (even dwarves are part-organic, part-mechanichal), and ripe for adventure.

Alpha testing will start on July 20th (read the announcement here), so we can really use your help to come play and test it out with us. To get an alpha key, simply sign up for our bi-weekly newsletter on http://www.cityofsteam.com/get_email and you'll get priority.

As one of the developers, I'd be glad to answer any of your input, so feel free to drop a line or two for us.;)

Well, we didn't use webGL or Java or HTML5 or any other technologies the other browser game developers may use to make the game. City of Steam is Unity3D-based, which has its own free plugin that players will be required to download and install to get into the game. But no worries. It's only 4M-ish sized and takes you but a few seconds to download.

We started with a team of 4 just 3 years ago and since then the team keeps expanding. Actually a huge majority of the game was worked on by a team of just 11 but due to the expanding scope of the game and the complete re-writes we've been making as result have pushed the team to 30 developers.
