Multi Fallout: New Vegas

Abe Froeman, be sure to max out speech since you will need it at the end of the game. That's if you want to avoid attacks from your so-called "allies". On which side are you gonna be? :) I played on Mr.House's side.

I already have speech maxed out. (It's at 90 and I carry Naughty Nightware)

I'll be siding with the NCR, I'm such a bitch.

I need to start playing this game again. I'm just not as interested in this game as I was in Fallout 3, I don't know why since they are basically the same.

I was doing a quick playthrough on hardcore just so I can beat the main quest then start a new save and do all the side quests, I think I'm about half way done.

I'm not as interested either. The exploration in New Vegas is really lacking, and if the F3 modding scene is anything to go by that probably won't be fixed. Locations aren't a big part for most modders.

I think I'm going to get Dead Money tonight. I'm about to hit level 30 and I think I'm getting close to finishing the main storyline.

I'll post my thoughts after I play it.

So I completed Dead Money last night. I wasn't planning on getting it, but it's release just happened to coincide with me getting the itch to finally finish this game. For the most part, I would recommend it, but I'm sure it won'
t be for everyone. I won't talk about any major plot points in the below or spoil anything.

For starters, once you initiate Dead Money, you are there until you complete it. Secondly, there is a warning that you should be around Level 20 before attempting and I think that's a fair estimate. Even if you go in at Level 20 I think there are still some Speech Checks that you will miss out on though. I want to say that if you have 85 in Speech and 75 in Explosives, Lockpick, or Science, you can take the high road when dealing with everyone, but don't hold me to that. A high Melee or Unarmed skill would also be useful, along with a decent Repair to recycle/convert spent shells. (I went in with a 100 in Energy Weapons and Guns at Level 29.)

You get to meet four of the most interesting characters so far in New Vegas with the Dead Money DLC. First up there's Father Elijah, the main antagonist and ex-Brotherhood of Steel Elder, who you've already heard stories about when picking up the companion Veronica. Next is Dog/God, a Nightkin with multiple personality disorder. My thoughts are that Dog is the personality that became the result of the Super Mutant program, and God is the personality of the human before that. Then there is Dean Domino, an ex-lounge singer who is now a ghoul, not much else to say here. Finally there is Christine, whose head is shaved and covered in scars and unable to speak. Christine is also tied to Elder Elijah, and you've also heard her mentioned when talking to Veronica in the main game. She was Veronica's lover if you went down that talk track with her.

There are only two types of enemies in Dead Money; Ghost People and Security Holograms. There's a couple of varieties of Ghost People, but they are all extremely tough and have a high DT. They can also only die when they become dismembered, so pick a limb or head and go to town. If you don't take off a limb, they will resurrect with all of their limbs extremely damaged, so you'll wast some more precious ammo finishing the job. The Security Holograms cannot be killed with conventional weapons, so don't even bother. You have to find their emitter and either disable it or destroy it with a bullet. If they turn red and start shooting at you, high tail it out of there because in two-three blasts you'll be dead.

So besides dealing with hardy enemies, the environment in Dead Money is also a pain in the ass. There are booby traps littered absolutely everywhere, I mean everywhere. If you have the Light Step Perk, you'll be in great shape. I didn't, so I just saved often because I was getting my legs crippled by bear traps every 30 feet. On top of the traps everywhere, the air outside in Dead Money is toxic too. I was playing on Hardcore Mode/Hard, so I don't know if it's any different on a lesser difficulty setting, but your health just slowly degenerates when outside. There are also pockets of concentrated gas that deplete your health very quick, so have fun with that.

As far as the actual Quests go, they weren't as varied as I'd like. They were all just your typical go here and do this and then return here jobs. Towards the end you had options on the last four quests to "deal" with things as you saw fit though, which was nice.

I actually though the gear you got with this DLC was pretty good. The Holorifle when fully upgraded with the three mods littered around the outside of the Siera Madre Casino becomes a beast with 100 Energy Weapon. You also get a new Automatic Rifle that fires .308 rounds, which worked out well for me once I left because I typically role with This Machine and a Sniper Rifle. Having another gun that uses the same .308 JSP Hand Loaded ammo that I use is nice. There are also some unique melee weapons for those builds like the Cosmic Knife, Bear Trap Fist, and Knife Spear. On top of the weapons, there is also some pretty decent armor to be grabbed as well, namely the Assassin Suit, which is a Light Armor with 14 DT that adds a big +10 to Sneak. There's also Reinforced Sierra Madre Guard armor and a matching helmet with 18 and 5 DT respectively, also Light Armor. On top of those, there's a unique cocktail you can get the recipe to from Dean Domino that has no carrying weight and does a straight up +75 HP with no negatives called the Sierra Madre Martini or something like that.

So that's pretty much the nuts and bolts of the DLC. If you are up for a challenge, I would recommend it, but I was personally kind of wanting to get back to the Mojave when I was about 3/4 of the way though this. I think it was worth it for the gear and the Level Cap increase, if you're into that sort of thing. I also enjoyed the story and characters, but the gameplay got stale to me. You also get a new base at the end of it to use that has a bed and two workbenches.

Pro tip - Once you get into the casino and activate the dealer holograms, win some chips so you can buy enough Weapon Repair Kits from the vending machines to get all of your weapons to 100%. It'll help with the Ghost People who pretty much had their way with you up until that point.

I would not recommend the second DLC, Honest Hearts. It raises the level cap by another five, but there is no gear worth using after the DLC is done. I thought the idea of meeting the "Burning Man" would be a worthwhile DLC, but it's not. The missions were boring and it was short. You can only go in with 75 lbs of gear, so I just brought This Machine with about 200 .308 JSP rounds and the Holorifle with me and completely dominated every enemy in here.

Dead Money was loads better.
