Google Play avatar not updated

Hi,

A little more than a week ago, I changed my Google Play avatar which was already connected to my Exophase profile. On Exophase though, the avatar is always the old one. I already tried to do the manual resync and even deconnected and reconnected the profile, but it always show the old one (even after more than a week). Is there a reason for that? Is there a way to update it?

Thank you in advance for any help :)

You need to generate some new activity on the account in order for the site to check for avatar changes. Either by earning an achievement or playing a game.

I'm able to force an update and just did it now, but that is the reason for not updating.

But then what's the manual sync about? And how's possible that even deconnecting and reconnecting the account, it doesn't see it the right way? Does it mean it stays in some kind of cache?

Anyway, thank you a lot for your explanation and also for the update you did :)

The manual sync functionality is mainly for those that want to update their game activity quicker.

Those who use that feature tend to run it quite frequently so it ends up being a waste of resources to check for avatar changes on every scan. There is a decent amount of overhead in checking for it. Usually it's separate from fetching the game data as well, and we have to be careful about rate limits on each service.

It's possible we could check for it on account reconnection though, I would be fine with that. I'll try to get it implemented at some point.

Does it actually take that much resources to sync all these informations? 😮

Anyway, I'm still wondering how the account reconnection work: does it mean that even when it's deconnected, the account stays cached somewhere so that if I reconnect it it doesn't need to do a resync? 🤔

Again thank you for all your answers and your kindness 🙏 you did and still doing a great job!

I’ve had the same issue.. Sometimes Exophase just takes a while to update the avatar after changing it on Google Play. It should update eventually.

That is correct, when it's disconnected all the game activity remains stored. The only thing that happens on reconnection is the token we get back from the authentication provider is refreshed, which for the most part is only used to verify that you are owner of said account.

In certain cases like for Blizzard the token gives elevated permissions, like being able to see all WoW characters on a user's account - so it's useful for that platform to reconnect if you add new characters for example.
