I wish I had a cool theme, are you people making these yourselves for finding them somewhere?

All the themes I ever downloaded looked like ass.

how does one do this?

For a simple theme its normally made up of 4 things:

-Icons
-Wallpaper
-Dock
-Status bar

-Icons are, well icons, the normal size is 60x60, but you can change it.

-Wallpaper, is the wallpaper, the size is 320x480.

-Dock, is the image behind the icons in the bottom row, the size is normally 320x91/90.

-StatusBar, its the small bar at the top, the size is 320x21/20.

Just design them in what ever image editor you use. A good idea is to look at other themes before doing it. Just to see. Also its worth downloading one and looking at the file structure for winterboard.

Hope this answers you. :)

Thank's for the dimensions. Should they be PNG? Do I just SSH the files somewhere? Do I need to back up the old icons? Is WinterBoard involved in this?

I'm having trouble finding the answers to my questions on the macthemes site..

unless you were just pointing me there to see cooler themes than ass themes.

Nevermind. I spoke too soon. Sorry, thanks.

You're doing it wrong.

For Winterboard, you just pop the theme in /Library/Themes, and then the icons for that theme in /Library/Themes/Icons.

Yea, its a bit busy. :p

Idk about busy, but the white makes it hard to read some of the icons.
Nevertheless, icons looks good.

The dock on the black icons is pretty nice too.

I don't want to download a theme. I want to make my own.

Well what you could do, is as he said, download a theme, and then replace their icons with the ones you made.
Or just look at the layout of a theme you downloaded, and place all your icons/background/dock/etc in the same way and it should work out.

And the type of file is just a .png.

Basically you create a folder with the name of your theme in the spot that Copacetic told you, and in that theme folder you make another folder with the name Icons and place the icons you made inside.

To put your Dock/Status Bar/Background you have to name the file "[Dock/StatusBar/Background].png" or something like that if i remember correctly, and place it in your Theme folder.

I suppose that's a good point. And icons I don't supply will just be the originals right?
