Everyone's missing one huge point.

If your getting the device for homebrew, definatly get the iTouch. Trust me, the battery life on the iPhone is awful because its running cell phone functions at the same time. Whereas it lasts alot longer on the iTouch. If you dont need the phone functions, get a iTouch.

Talk time:
Up to 5 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on 2G

* Standby time: Up to 300 hours

Internet use:
Up to 5 hours on 3G
Up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi

* Video playback: Up to 7 hours
* Audio playback: Up to 24 hours

7 vs 6 for videos
24 vs 36 for audio

Since homebrew uses the display as much as videos, according to this, the iPhone will last longer. Either way there's hardly a difference to say one rules extreme in battery life.
