You have a lot of options really.

Currently I can recommend the most recent 5.00 m33 v6. So let's assume that's where you want to go.

I will present three options in the order I would recommend them:
**Option #1**
1. Use an easy installer. This option is only good to go if you have 3.52 m33 v3 or v4. The version here matters. If so, this is easy!
Download Dumbfounded's 5.00 m33 v6 easy installer here: http://www.mediafire.com/?jmogjjmmkl4
2. Run on pc. Connect PSP in usb mode, hit install. Wait for it to finish.
3. Go to game tab, then memstick to find and run update.

**Option #2***
1. Get jiggy with pandora.
It's safe, it's easy, and pandora is sexy.
1. Get Open source pandora battery tools here: http://nds.cmamod.com/wordpress/?dl=31
open it and copy ospbt_060 folder to X:\PSP\GAME (X being your psp's drive letter)
2. Go to the psp's game tab, then memstick to find and run ospbt.
3. Agree to it's warnings, yada yada, and at it's menu select to convert your battery to pandora. Exit the program.
4. Create a magic memstick. Easy program here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1652
Download it, and run it with your psp in usb mode. Hit download 500.pbp and wait for it to finish, then hit create pandora stick when it's finished downloading.
5. Use the two together:
Unless you changed the default button trigger, the way to use it is: Put the magic memstick in the psp you want to use it on. Remove all sources of power - ac adapter and battery. Hold the L trigger while you put in the pandora's battery. This should load to the pandora service menu.
Hit install 5.00 m33 from the pandora service menu. Sit back. Relax.
6. Update to 5.00 m33 v6 (you would be on 5.00 m33 v4 with the above): http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1646 - Copy UPDATE folder to X:\PSP\GAME and run.

**Option #3**
1. Use Hellcats Recovery Reflasher. Hellcats makes some great tools, can upgrade directly despite the firmware, and just get's the job done. Get it here: http://fserv.skill-club.com/get_828_ca0f.htm
2. Unpack it and find the folder RECOVERY and place it in X:\PSP\GAME
3. Download the 500.pbp here: http://exophase.com/files/psp/500.PBP
4. At the end, you will have X:\500.pbp and X:\PSP\GAME\RECOVERY folder. After this is done, go to the Game tab/memstick to find and run Hellcat's Reflasher) Hit ok to agree to the warnings (if you do agree) and at hellcat's main menu, scroll down to the second option install M33 and select it.
5. Update to 5.00 m33 v6 (you would be on 5.00 m33 v4 with the above): http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1646 - Copy UPDATE folder to X:\PSP\GAME and run.

Pick one and enjoy
