LCD Brightness scale

Is this hard coded? I'd like it if I could get my laptop's lowest brightness setting to be dimmer than it is by default. Is there software than can do that or is the brightness scale hard coded into the machine?

I have a Toshiba Satellite something or other, if that matters.

Did you try opening Windows Mobility Center and adjusting it that way?

I don't even know what that is or if I have it. My windows is lacking a lot of things.

Control Panel > Mobile PC > Windows Mobility Center. If you have that, there should be a icon/selection called "Adjust Screen Brightness".

nope, not there. Are there any 3rd party programs that can adjust it?

I did some research and if that doesn't work/help, then I don't really know what to do.

yeah, that's the Toshiba default crap which is what I don't want. Thanks for the help anyway.
