Limewire gets canned

Well, that's lame. I'm checking out to see if Frostwire is down.

Edit: Nope. Didn't think so. Aren't both Frostwire and Limewire made by the same person/company so to speak?

Tip to all our users: don't use P2P programs, just don't

Well, that's if you don't know how to use them. I never had a problem once I figured out how to pick out the shitty files.

Man, that's crazy though, I can't believe it lasted that long. I remember having a family acquaintance download shit for me off Limewire, and make mix CD's back in like, 2002... Memories...

"Shitty files" isn't the issue

then what is?
i shall miss limewire :(

The fact that the RIAA and other companies keep a close eye on transfers and you're more likely to get "caught" using a P2P program. Plus they've been known to install spyware/unnecessary programs

Yeah torrent are the way to go. Although I did use Limewire alot back in the day, then realized how crappy it was compared to the alternatives out there.

IIRC some court ordered them to cease P2P operations.

Good riddance. P2P applications like Limewire went the way of the dodo as soon as torrents became popular.

I don't understand why Limewire got shut down and other p2p programs didn't, does that mean those are next?

I remember my bro used Warez, Limewire, and Kazaa (dunno if it is typed correctly).

Gnutella had a web interface to directly download files from peers through the browser and some server side magic. I hate it when people have their stupid P2P client running 24x7 in the background.

P2P isn't illegal. It's what people associate it with (Piracy) that gives it a stigma.

Limewire; however, advocated getting free music as one of it's features and thus was targeted.

Ive never used it, but I am surprised it lasted until now, especially after mininova got into all the legal issues.

Good riddance :p
I don't know anyone who used Limewire anymore...
I used it probably about 5 years ago, and stopped using it after I once tried to download Ice Age 2 and got a full length porn movie (Yeah I was super cool :D)
Then used torrents for a while but haven't used them in at least a year.
Whenever I want to download something I find rapidshare/megaupload/mediafire/netload links. Always full speed and easy to find (oliv3r.net for TV shows, *console*iso.com for games, google for music)
