5.50GEN-C custom firmware had problems when it was launched,there have been reports of people's psp freezing,but they seemed to be fixed to certain PSP model's. PSPGEN's MaGiXieN has address these issues as well as announce that work is being carried out on CFW 5.50GEN-D.
Here's what PSPGEN team had to say:
"Firstly, the original version that was being posted was well prepared for this announcement and we had given 24 hours of additional testing to verify that everything worked well. This first release does not launch the protected games but all games 5.55 +. In the process, Yoshihiro out how to counter the protections we have decided to announce and release in the edit function. So this is where we fished for if everything worked in our tests, it is found that certain protections of our CFW have come to panic under certain conditions and also depending on the model of PSP. Moreover, to avoid (too much) delay the release, we dropped the baby without giving her a test period of time. Accept our apologies for this."
MaGiXieN has also pointed out other errors that are not connected to the CFW such as semi-bricks ("left a personalized theme and therefore formatting the flash1 via Recovery menu was necessary") and full bricks ("The installer of 5.50GEN had no CFW our bug and can not be directly responsible for that.").
