NVIDIA has set the release date for the GTX 580 for either November 8th or 9th, depending on where you live. The price tag is expect to be that of the GTX 480.
The new card will have a slightly lower TDP (Thermal Design Power), than the GTX 480, at 244W versus the previous version, which had 250W. On a 40-nm die, the GTX 580 comes with 512 CUDA stream processing units, 2GB of DDR5 memory and 128 texturing units, running on the GF 100 core.

According to a Chinese enthusiast forum, the GTX 580 will have a 15 to 20 percent performance boost.

Strong rumors have it that availibilty will be horrible though, with next to no cards on launch. Despite this, eNet insists that AIC partners will have GTX 580 card available for sale on November 9th.

For a top-end card, a 15-20 percent increase in performance over the GTX 480 isn't sounding all that impressive, to be honest. Especially if they end up selling it at $500-599.

Sounds more like a GTX 485 to me, refined with higher clocks and slightly lower power consumption. I'm interested in seeing what AMD's response is with the 6970 and 6990.
