PSV Sony Downplays 3DS Price Cut, PS Vita Pushed To 2012 In US, Europe

While things were looking rosy for a Q4 worldwide launch, it turns out that the PS Vita will skip this Christmas in US and Europe. The handheld may hit Japan near this year's end, but overseas markets won't get it until 2012.

At E3 2011 this year, Sony promised a "phased global rollout," suggesting that it would reach all major markets by Q4 despite earlier reports to the contrary.

That's too long, think I'm gonna get a 3DS now that the price has dropped to hold me off and just trade it in when the Vita comes out.

Well, it's obvious and true in a way. Why should Sony lower their price for the Vita just because the 3DS is failing?
Besides, if $250 is truly the launch price, that's still a good deal for a quad-core mobile device. (A dual-core, open-line Galaxy S 2 is $550 nowadays.)
