Following a report from US-based game mag EGM, Namco Bandai today officially announced that it is reviving its classic Splatterhouse horror franchise, which initially launched across Japanese arcades in 1988.
Developed by BottleRocket Entertainment of The Mark of Kri fame, players will once again assume the role of college student Rick Taylor in search of his missing girlfriend Jennifer. The game is said to feature a "dynamic combat system," allowing players to perform melee combos in a bone-crushing fashion, wield trademark weapons such as the 2x4 board, and relentlessly rip limbs and heads from the bodies of foes.
First high-res screenshots can be found past the break. Splatterhouse is due out on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2009.
