German-based website Computer Base is reporting that the new 40GB PlayStation 3 models sport a slimmed-down 65nm version of the PS3's CELL processor and GPU RSX. All in all, this results in quieter and cooler system, also lowering power consumption down from 200 watts to only 135.

Despite the exclusion of PS2 backwards compatibility, it looks like the 40GB model does have some advantages after all.

hmmmz my take on this is even if it's quiet the fact the Backwards compatability is missing means LESS PS3 40GB Sales. Why because games are still and i stress STILL being made for the PS2, so PS2 sales will increase (since games cost less and there's still new games comming out for it - and some are relased on both PS2 and PS3 like Guitar Hero 3 for example). That and people that do have the previous Playstations, will already have a huge library of games some of which people dont want to get rid of. Then you have the PS3 which has a bunch of Lackluster games compared to the Wii360.

but does this new version has the same performance?

Yeah, performance won't change. The new chips are simply more efficient so they output less heat and use less power.
