Earlier last month it was reported that Sony had moved to 65nm process technology in the new 40GB PS3 models. That's not true, according to a Sony spokesperson who told Heise Online that the 40GB model still uses a 90nm version of the CELL processor.

However, as reported earlier, the spokesperson confirmed that the new 40GB model does feature lower power consumption of around 120 to 140 watts, as compared to previous models of the console which used around 180 to 200 watts of power.

Sony is planning to make the switch to 65nm eventually, but for now all models of the console will be 90nm. That being said, when the PS3 does finally go 65nm, we can expect power consumption to drop even further.
