In a revealing interview with AutoWeek, Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi talked GT5 Prologue, which is due out for the PlayStation 3 early next year. The game itself has taken almost 320,000 man-hours in a span of 3 years to create, according to Yamauchi.

Comparatively speaking, Yamauchi said that it took his team an average of one day to create a car model for the first GT, while it has taken nearly 180 days to complete one car model for GT5. In GT4 around 4000 to 5000 polygons were used to model one car, in GT5 that number has jumped to a whopping average of 200,000 polygons.

Breaking away from game development, Yamauchi talked a bit about his personal life. His interest in automobiles began when he was around the age of 4. Although he didn't get his drivers license until he was 24, primarily due to the high cost of obtaining a license in Japan.
