Homebrew is what you should try most, and first.

You can rip your own UMD into an ISO, easier to carry around.
Custom Theme, if you don't like the XMB sony has. You can start HERE, but 3.90M33 is just out, not much themes are made for it yet. (Remember to back up your flash0 onto your computer before doing anything!!)
