Sony Online Entertainment is hard at work on The Agency, an online-enabled massively multiplayer shooter for the PlayStation 3 and PC. A hot topic surrounding the game is the prospect of cross-platform play between the two platforms. We've seen it done on Xbox 360, but not yet with a PS3 title. According to executive producer Matt Wilson, it is certainly possible and the development team is considering it:[blockquote2]In fact, we're actually doing that at the office. Technology-wise, it's really not that complicated.[/blockquote2]However, Wilson further noted a few barriers stand in the way, such as gameplay balance due to the difference in control schemes and the fact that PC platform is inherently less secure -- meaning if an exploit was found, the PC version would have to updated immediately. On consoles, that's just not possible, as every single update needs to pass through a certification process. As we've witnessed in the past, this can take up to a couple weeks to a whole month.

first the "Trophy system" and not cross platform compatibility, Sony truely is trying to be more like the 360 with it's "console to PC" compatibility for some of their games. Sad thing is 360 had them all implemented from the get go.

Now when @Home comes out, there's going to be something that would make the PS3 stand out more.
