Malware and Virus in PSP

are there any malware eboot/prx around the net? are there any eboot/plugins disguised as good and safe eboot/prx but actually are malware eboot/plugins that can mess up flash0 of 88v3 and psp3k? are there any antivirus that can be installed and run in psp (not that i think they are more effective than the pc versions)? just asking so i could take precautions.

I remember there was indeed a Trojan (Trojan.PSP.Brick.A) , which would wipe the flash. But it was in the old 1.50 kernel days, so most likely wouldn't even work. Your PC antivirus would pick it up. Apart from that, there hasn't been any real threats.

Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of. It wont work because it exploited a bug in the photo viewer, which Sony has now patched, as it was used for Homebrew. There were two version, A and B, and both of which are detected by Anti-Virus programs

i was thinking how easy it was to brick your psp3k using gen5.5 or hellcat's flasher then it would be also easy for coder with malicious intent to make a malicious psp program to brick psp.

Common sense is all that's needed. Make sure the source is legit, as is the developer.

so this is possible? iso/cso sites may have these. are file from site like qj being scanned for malicious code or it just the credibility of the dev?

i have a friend talking about his friend with anti virus installed in his psp. are there any existing antivirus for psp?

Never heard of an AV for PSP.

Never heard too (And i don't think they are as good as pc version). But my friend was insisting there is. I even told him that most probably it's fake. Maybe a HB for the old firmware? Im still new to PSP HB.

This, It happened WAAAYY back when Downgrading FW2.00 Came out.
And that was like 4/5 years ago Now.

Actually I think firmware 6.xx ships with a demo version of McAffee or something like that... I think it only works with the browser though.

Back on malwares, I seem to remember that Dark_Alex himself released a CFW that would brick the PSP if hexedited, to get a revenge on some site that was hexhediting his releases...
As far as I'm concerned this is what I'd call malware.

He encrypted it and if it was hexedited the encryption would naturally fail.

And the guy IIRC kept hex editing credits in peoples' brew.

Of course a homebrew with kernel access can easily brick the PSP
But I doubt any commercial companies will release AV for PSP,
since you are supposed to run "trusted" programs from Sony only
With the limited base of PSP browser users, it will not be effective to exploit it.

I wonder if Sony will make a "apps market" for developers or not

If you think of app running on the PSP (instead of "only" games), they are indeed at least thinking about maybe considering it.

But knowing Sony, not much will come from that - at least not any time soon.

True, but that was still malware. Dark Alex intentionally coded the thing so that it would brick the PSP if the software was hex edited.
And pandora didn't exist at that time.
Hurting the owner of that website was one thing, hurting the website's users (who had nothing to do with the site owner) was another story.
We all make mistakes, but I still count that one as the second malware for PSP (the first one being that other virus)

If you went to that site which the owner stolen credit for many homebrew applications, you deserved to be bricked.

wololo technically has a point, but there was a HUGE disclaimer on the app.

However, I went there before I found out, which is when I stopped going there.

Protecting your work != malware

As far as I'm concerned D_A cannot be held accountable for what happened at all. The admin of that site was responsible for the creation and subsequent spreading of malware. He brought it upon his own users, knowing full well that the modified version would brick their PSPs.
