Might get a PSP-2000 (slim), a few questions

GigaByte

CFW or die!
Hi, new here as you can see. I am still somewhat new to the PSP world but iam learning quickly, I already upgraded my phat to 4.01M33-2 from 3.52M33. I should be getting some money soon for my b-day and iam thinking about getting a PSP-2000 (slim), I have the following questions about the slim:

1. I have a phat PSP with 4.01M33-2 on it and a non-fake 4GB Sony MS Pro Duo, I will have to make a Pandora's battery and Magic memory stick on the phat in order to downgrade the PSP Slim? Also does the battery from a phat fit the Slim?

2. If yes to #1 I am able to change the battery and memory stick back to normal after downgrading for normal use?

3. Does the USB link cable for the PSP phat fit/work with the PSP Slim?

4. I hear there is no 1.5 kernal addon for PSP Slim? I currently have no 1.5 homebrew apps on the MS, so they should all still work ok?

5. The same M33 CFW that runs on phat does work on Slim right? Or does Slim have it's own version?

6. I heard the Slim can output games and movies to your TV, can I connect the cables to my VCR and run it that way as the TV in my room does not have component connection ports.

why not wait out until PSP-3000 is released? Yes, there will be no custom firmware available immediately but at least you still have your phat psp to play games before dax develops one for the new PSP.

just my 2 cents

bad idea

not a good idea.

buy a PSP-2000, because it can have custom firmware (except TA-088 V3 motherboard)

PSP-3000 cannot be hacked. It is Pandora Proof, so custom firmware cannot be installed.
PSP-3000 might be hacked in the far future, but its not worth waiting that long.

so just buy a PSP-2000. :)

jx233, stop making things up. The 3000 isn't out yet, which means you can't know anything about it.

yes, it might take 2 days to be hacked :glare:
I say wait. If it can't boot pandora, buy a slim. If it can boot with pandora but not read the IPL, buy the 3000

I thought about waiting for the 3000 but the differences between the 2000 and 3000 seem so slight I don't care for it. The only difference I am seeing is the screen is supposed to be yet even brighter than the slim while the slim is brighter than the phat and I think the phat has a bright ass screen as is lol.

As for the 3000 getting hacked it seems that dark-alex.org has been on standby for almost a week now.. makes me wonder whats going on in the future of CFWs.

Sorry, I'm just very skeptical about the PSP-3000; its because of the TA-088 V3 for Slim

Fear and dislike of that mobo makes me talk bad stuff about PSP-3000.

btw, sorry for offending you rabbit.

After TA088V3 was mentioned I found a guide about avoiding a slim with that board, as long as there is no "G" in the circled space here http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f100/NeilR_QJ/psp_version2.png I should be fine. Hope that guide is right.

That is a really old guide for PSP-1000 model which means it's an original phat version.
Slim you can't tell by the UPC or SKU but I would bet if you can still find Daxter Ice around your shops in town that would be the best bet at not hitting a TA-088 V2 or 3

ta-088

so if ta-088 v3 is a "G" sticker

then ta-088 v2 is "F" sticker

then what i want is TA-088 V1, which should be the "E" sticker; right?

I did some more looking around and I am finding out the best chance to get a slim with TA-088 V2 or under (not a V3) is to go with the piano black or silver versions, luckily the piano black is the one I want:smile:

Going by the "G" method as shown in the screenshot I posted earlier is promising so far, I have not heard of anyone getting a "non G" slim with a 88 v3 board, so far all those with the "G" were 88 v3's.

ta-088

oh thank you very much!! =D

now, i know how to avoid a v3 (and v2)

i really want a TA-085 (or TA-085 v2) or a TA-088 v1; Red or Silver PSP.

I'd rather have a Silver Phat, but they are rare.

btw, I noticed you are new here; so welcome to Exophase!

The v2 is still downgradeable you just need to use DC6 (?) I think and it will run it, then upgrade to latest M33 from there. I think it would be hard to find a TA-085 slim as my phat is a TA-086 which surprised me, thought it was a TA-082. Anyway I just did a test run with creating a Pandora's battery and Magic memory stick for practice and it went flawless on my first try, I downgraded to offical 3.90 then went to 3.90 M33 using the UPTv5 pack. Now I know how its all done Iam just waiting till I get the slim assuming my gifted money will even be enough (LOL, it probably will be) and avoid the horrid TA-088v3.

And thanks for the welcome:smile:

ta-088 v2

np, for welcome. Glad to have you here at Exophase :w00t:

and you are wondering why I just get a TA-088 V2.

Reason 1 : I am developing an app for the Slim and that app does not work with TA-088 V2. it only works with TA-088 V1 and lower.

Reason 2: the Ta-088 v2 is horrid to me, because it can not use DC1- DC5

and GigaByte:

I went to Wal-Mart today.

I went to check out the Red God of War PSP Slim.

The shipment date was 06/12/2008.

and its model was PSP-2001 ZD and had the number 98992.

guess what, its a TA-088 V1!!!!! :w00t: :w00t:

but I only have $163 dollars right now, so I'll get a used one for $149.

but with the info I gave you, is it V1 for sure?

-I see, what app are you developing?

If you didn't see a "G" anywhere on the barrcode/box then its 99% not a V3 but it could be anything from the first launch of slim with the TA-085 to the TA-88v2, just not a v3. The last part confuses me a little, you ask me if it should be a V1 after you said its a V1:biggrin: With the pack date being in early/mid June I would say its 90% chance of being a 088v1. Some stores let you try it out of the box before you buy it, if you can turn it on and make sure the FW is NOT 4.05 or its 100% a TA-088v3, if its 4.01 its most likely not a v3 but most likely a v2 which you don't want, if its 3.95 or lower then its most likely a v1 or older board. I can't confirm if the FW theory is correct, its just the trend that I read about all over the net, remember theres always the dreadful exception.

One thing I can say for certian is the older the pack date the better as you have 2 versions you're trying to avoid as I only have 1.

ok

I believe you. Your theories most likely to work and I'm going to Gamestop to get one ( a Red TA-088 V1) or a Silver (TA-085 V2) this Wednesday or Tuesday.

and the shipment date was 06/12/2008 on the red one i was talking about.

I haven't heard anything about the red one reguarding it's board version but if its a V1 thats good, I checked Walmart's site and they do have the red one for $200, Futureshop has the piano black which is supposed to up there with the silver in reguards to their board version being TA-085 - TA-088v2 for $170. Whatever you do do not get the Maddan (I think its called) blue as thats the latest slim to come out and I already heard about almost every one being a TA-088v3.
