screen blackout after a while

my psp 2000's screen blacks out after being on about 15 minutes. When I am in a game I can hear from the sound that the gameplay still continues, but I don't see anything. It blacks out in an interlined screensaver way. After I put if off and on the display works only for a few minutes before it blacks out again. It will blackout also in the main menu, even the recovery menu (running 5.00 m6) so it is not restricted to gameplay.
What could be wrong? Is it a hardware or software problem?

I would guess it is a hardware fault - Possible suspects; Loose backlight connector to motherboard or LCD backlight is damaged.

easy fixes if you are familiar with the internals of a PSP and will not cost that much. I doubt it is software as other than the blackouts it works as normal particulary since you can access recovery mode.

just like january39 said, it could be hardware related problem.

To check if its software related, follow these steps:

Hold "R' button, and turn on your PSP. The Recovery Menu will pop up. Go to "Advanced" , and select the option "Format flash1 and reset default settings".

If that doesn't help, then its nothing with the software.

Good catch, never thought of that. Always worth a try, with these odd flaws
