Hello,

I'm very new to hacking my PSP and really want to play SNES/NES games on my PSP. I also am interested in ripping PSone games, but I would be perfectly happy in just being able to play old school games from emulators.

I also don't want to lose too much compatability with my UMD games.

So... My questions are:

1. Are the new versions of m33 enabling more UMD games as the new firmwares come out?

2. I have a PSP Slim bought in October 2007 that is currently running 3.6v firmware (OFW). Whats the quickest way to get the most up to date version of m33? (From searching the forum my guess would be 3.6 m33 to 5.0? Or... 3.6 to 3.9 to 5.0?

3. What is your favorite/stable version of m33? Or... what version of m33 would you recommend to a beginner who wants what I want out of his PSP?

4. I currently only own 5 games (I've borrowed many from friends): Janne d'arc, FFT:war of lions, hot shots golf, puzzle quest, castlevania dracula chronicles. (will m33 mess up my ability to play any of these UMDS?)

I know I'm asking a lot, but I used some of my recent Birthday money to buy a Pandora Battery, and before I hack my PSP I wanna know what I'm getting into. I read a lot from the posts already here, and I think this forum rocks! I hope someone has the time to deal with a poor noob like me :blushing:

Thanks!

1. The Latest version of M33 supports almost all UMD's out now, one or two exceptions that specifically require 5.50. That Said, there are other CFW's that operate on 5.50 so in the event you get a Specific 5.50 title then you have options. Personally i stick with M33

2. There are a numbers of ways to do this, Read this first - http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=10173 Probably best for you (as you have a pandora) make a MMS use DC8 and go to 5.00M33-6

3. Easy. 5.00M33-6

4. In no way at all. Perfectly safe.

Glad to help out, CFW is perfectly safe and you lose nothing that you have already with OFW. When people dont do the research and plough on is when it goes wrong, clearly not the case with you

Thanks so much! You the man Jan!

I can't wait to get started. My pandora battery is still in the mail...

One more thing:

I have read much of your 'New to PSP' thread (which had a lot of info and was great for noobs like me) But one thing that I couldn't find was a definition or explanation of DC8. Something to do with NAND? So I'm kinda still foggy on your answer to #2: "make a MMS use DC8 and go to 5.00M33-6."? I found the thread for making an MMS and then I can use the CFW installation guide for 5.00, but before I do that I want to make sure I'm not missing anything important with DC8.

Sorry I replied to your answers with more questions, but I promise I'm almost done asking questions!

Cheers,

-B

No Problems, DC8 is a application created by Dark Alex (Despertar del Cementerio vEight). This application when used with a pandora battery d/g any psp (except Ta-088v3 and TA-090 v2,v3) to 5.00m33.

Major advantage is that it can re-create idstorage if your Idstorage ends up corrupted.

When you install any pandora program to you MS, it then becomes a Magic Memory stick aka MMS.

There are many programs that can d/g a psp, UPT, Hellcats recovery flasher - there are loads. DC8 is arguable the best out there.

Nice. I'm slowly getting to the point of full comprehension.

From x3spherex's thread I see that I need *A working, homebrew-capable PSP running at least 3.X OE / M33* before I make a MMS. So what version do I need to install of m33 before I make my MMS with DC8 and then go straight to 5.00m33-6? Since I have a PSP slim running 3.6 ofw, I have to go from 3.60m33 first right?

edit: no that can't be right, because on the installing 3.60 cfw guide, it says I need a MMS first.. I think. hmm... I think I have a good idea in my mind of everything I need to do, I just need a starting point cfw so I can make a MMS using x3spherex's guide.

That guide does require the MMS to be made on a PSP with CFW, however, Pandora deluxe can make the MMS via a PC.

Create the Card using this - Pandora deluxe on your PC.

When you have your pandora, viola all sorted.

Simply tick the check box for DC8 and install the TM-ipl. :)

True, but once he/she has got a mms and pandora, he/she can update to GEN from M33 to access PSN. and then if he/she doesnt like GEN, theycan downgrade back to M33 with DC8.

Okay, sweet.

I downloaded that, but it won't let me check the box for DC8... Is there a thread or a guide to using Pandora Deluxe? Because I tried 'starting' or 'initalizing' different settings on it and every time it would tell me it completed its job, but I notice no changes on my MS. It didn't even format it or delete the saves, it hasn't done anything.

Help me if you can! thanks!

PS - I loaded the 5.00 firmware into the 'load psp firmware setting', but most of the boxes like DC8 still haven't opened up for me on the other tabs...

Try using RainMotorSport's Ultralite MMS maker for 3.60. [http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=129709]

Then install 3.60 M33 from there, and there, you have custom firmware. :D

nm this post. was posting because thought I made a mistake. I'm pretty sure I'm almost at 5.00 m33-

Thanks for everyone's help! The rain mms maker program was much smoother.

Thanks for everyone's help!
