New Idea For ChickHEN files. and HEN complaint

Hello, I'm a noobie so please don't flame me...

I don't really understand how chickHEN works, but to the best of my ability, I understand that an "Exploit" Is a file that tells the firmware to run another file to install an E-loader, soooo, why don't we use .MP4 format? It is a container format, so it can hold any type of data, wikipedia states:

"almost any kind of data can be embedded in MPEG-4 Part 14 files through private streams"

And reffers to it as an "MP4 container format"

So, if someone creates a HEN for a PSP firmware using MP4, Sony could not chance patching the firmware to not support MP4, it would cost them many PSP users....

NOW.... for the HEN complaint

WTF? Why do people lie through their teeth? Team typhoon and freeplay told everyone that they would not release the exploit for PSP firmware 6.10, so, I updated, thinking that I would have nothing to lose because they were waiting for a new OFW to come out before they released a HEN, Now I'm F*$ked! It is not funny to tell people that you are not going to release something and then release it! Yes Yes, I know I shouldn't've updated but, I am a curious kid for my age, Anyone with complaints or responses to my thread post a reply.

You shouldve of really posted this in a dev forum, this is just a help forum mate, and freeplay is just a fake. so flame at him

Ok, this is going to take some time...

Firstly, I'll explain how ChickHEN works.
It starts by loading images from the memory card and the preview images as well. The images however are fake and actually have code in them.
This affect the image rendering library that the PSP uses and opens it up to allow code to be loaded from other places on the memory card.
From this, the developers can use it to replace the various checks that are normally used to stop homebrew from running.

The reason this works is because of the IMAGE rendering library being vunerable.

The PSP uses completely different libraries in the firmware for its video playback which includes playing back .mp4 files. You are correct however that .mp4 is just a container. The PSP checks the data in the .mp4 file and ensures that the video and audio data can be played.

As for the whole Team Typhoon/Freeplay thing...that's a mess in itself but let me try to clear it up.

What happened was that Freeplay was given access to a certain server but only to some of it. He abused his privileges and got access to some files and folders that he was NOT allowed to and this is where he got the exploit that he released.
This particular exploit was user-mode only (which means it couldn't touch anything in the firmware of the PSP and couldn't access all of the PSP). It had been known for ages but it wasn't going to be used until there was another exploit to back it up.

He then posted a video on Youtube showing the exploit and was told by Mathieulh to not release the hack at all. He ignored it and released it after 6.20 came out.

That is the factual information on the matter from what I know and have seen. If anyone feels the need to correct me please go right ahead.

However, I would like to keep discussion on any recent matters regarding Freeplay off exophase.com so please keep it to a minimum.
