It's no secret that Square Enix has been getting swamped by requests from fans clamoring for a full-blown HD remake of PSOne classic Final Fantasy VII. Not one to quell speculation, producer Yoshinori Kitase himself has expressed interest in developing a remake in the past. Clearly the company wants to do it, so why not make fans happy and commit to it right now?

Speaking in a roundtable discussion with journalists at a press event for Final Fantasy XIII in Korea, Kitase noted that a remake of VII for HD consoles would be a massive undertaking[...]

In other words: VII is 10 times better than XIII.

Yes, true, nice he admits that.
But I highly doubt it'd take 30-40 years to make it.
5 years tops, if they keep working on it and not delay it every 2 months due to company internal struggle or other "we might change strategy on this" crap.

I cant see any software house making any kind of profit with a process that takes 30 years, lol - by the time they did complete the hardware would be obselete.

<p>This is BS. They'd basically need to take the FF13 engine and apply that to the localities of FF7. FF7 is generally a larger game, but 30 years is a bit over the top. Most of us would be happy with a handheld version that looks like FF Crisis core on PSP!</p>

no don't use that paradigm crap on the remake let the user decide for themselves
I doubt it would take that long just update the graphics to modern quality
I don't like 13 cause of the paridigms
add movies
speech
and better graphics
no more Popeye graphics
a cleaner crisper ff7

Coding random shit
what horseshit, the code base should be still intact, and would probably need the graphics engine to be updated, but other than that, it should only require a decent asset team to rebuild the model's into a much higher quality count(considering that the cutscene's are cgi'd, they already have those hi-poly models anyway, so it's not really an issue). whatelse is thier, we are talking about a remake, not a total rebuild, sure their's bugs that could be fixed, and probably could add some more to the game, but really, they probably just said that to shut people up.

7 is not even that great of a game I wish people would stop talking about a remake for it. I would rather see new content and games than wasted time on a "HD" remake of a mediocre game.

Ok, just because you don't like it. Doesn't mean you gotta be a negative nancy.

You don't see me talkin shit about The Elder Scrolls every time there is something mentioned about that. (Which is something I don't like. But doesn't mean I don't want it made;or for it not to exist; so people who like it can't enjoy it.)

A remake of FFVII would really be bought up like hotcakes and sell like they've been wanting their other games too. They can't compare all sales to the original FFVII,because it's really a fluke that it sold as much as it did. Sales =/= quality of game. Just as popular opinion =/= quality of game.

But really they gotta be full of horseshit. They are probably just making this up as an excuse to make it look like they can't do it.

Really, all they need to do is establish the artstyle they will use(Which would likely have to be in line with Advent Children and the other newer entries) for the 3D graphics. Re do all the assets for the modern age of 3D(Just use modern tools to bring the old to the modern), make the game with a classic mode (plays the game in the same old overhead view angle and uses text boxes for dialogue with toggleable voice acting for those that do and don't want it) and a remake mode(That plays the game with a camera akin to Crisis Core or FFXIII and uses cutscenes with subtitles and toggleable voice acting). Not change the gameplay or it's mechanics at all. Include the original PSX Midi driven Music and a re-recorded soundtrack that is done without major embellishment and uses all the same style instruments but do as much as possible live(Some stuff such as programmed synths and effects of course wouldn't have to be live)

But also: They can't simply do this game like other "HD Remasters" (Which is also the reason why MGS1 was not made into HD) because the base game hasn't aged well visually. They can't just take the game and render it in a higher resolution with a different aspect ratio and call it a day. People would complain that it still looks bad. And it would. The reason why PS2 games have been successful is because the games had more potential beyond the resolution limitations of the hardware and era. Which is why Some HD ports like GOW or MGS look better than others, simply because the original looked that good or had that much potential hidden by the resolution limitations. And why others don't, like DMC or RE4 HD(Which the PS3 version seems to use the PS2/PC versions as it's base. Which is heavily downgraded from the Wii/GCN versions. But also because the original artwork just doesn't have that same potential limited by the resolution of the original game. Thus they don't look as good when ran in a higher resolution.) Really, MGSHD or GOW HD don't look amazing because they redid the textures(like they often say they do. And they are full of horse shit when they do) because they didn't. It's just because the original looked that good.

Look at this
https://i.minus.com/ibzbLoW4QB1p6G.png
On the left is MGS3HD. On the Right is the PS2 version emulated via PCSX2 at a high internal resolution.

And here's another one, but this time full shots with the PS2 version being stretched to 16:9
https://i.minus.com/i9GZSq2YOy6Go.png

The only differences being a different aspect ratio 1.)
And the lack of post processing effects like Bloom(which are disabled in PCSX2 automatically due to issues. If they weren't. I could use a widescreen hack to hack the game into 16:9 and have the bloom. And it would basically 99.99% the same as the "HD" remaster)

But I digress, in the case of FFVII, even more so they couldn't just "HD"-ify it because that means they would have to go back and completely redraw nearly EVERYTHING that doesn't take place on the world map or battle screen. Because the original game used Bitmap images for backgrounds. Thus they couldn't magically run this with a different FOV since the game didn't work that way. Ergo would result in "Work" which may be something that is basically impossible for them to recreate the original backgrounds due to not having the original hardware/software/people who created them back in the day.

But you're getting it wrong. It's not every time, I love Final Fantasy with a passion. Therefore when another thread comes up of people whining about no ffvii remake along with the countless other people still begging for it, then yes I will say that it's not even that great of a game. They should be focusing on new, better FF games with new content than an "HD" version of VII, plain and simple.

Da fuk? Why don't they just admit that they don't WANT to remake it. How the hell would it take longer to remake a game than it would to make a new game?
I couldn't get past 30 minutes of that boring fucking movie known as FF13, flat out hated FF12, and I'm having a hard time acknowledging FF11's existence.
There is something seriously wrong with a company that can't remake a game where all the ground work is pretty much done already, but can churn out several different awful games in a row... hell they even had enough time to make Estrogen Fest 2003, enough time a sequel to 13, and are making a sequel to that sequel.
I'm harsh on this company because because they used to be one of my favorites. ( I bought The bouncer for fucks sake) but they now all they do is publish Call of Duty games, churn out sequels to games nobody wanted a sequel to, charge ridiculous prices for iPhone games and make up new excuses as to why they can't remake arguably their most popular game. If it wasn't for Hitman Square Enix as a whole would be dead to me, since final fantasy hasn't been good since FFX.

XIII-2 is far better than XII or XIII, a huge step in the right direction. We'll see how the next one turns out.

I really agree with this post!
