Question about booting PSX and PSP iso's

I currently have a slim PSP running 3.80 M33-5 CFW. I have several PSP game iso's (legal backups of course) on a 4gb Sony memory stick. I am also playing FFVII as well (used popstation GUI to convert the iso of the game to EBOOT). The question I have is, I don't see any movies in the games I am playing. For instance, I have Tekken: Dark Resurrection and when I complete story mode with a character I'm supposed to see a movie, but it just doesn't happen. The screen goes black and then goes to the credits. The movie I'm supposed to see just seems to not be playing. At first I thought it may be a problem with the iso I had, like the movies were cut out of it or something. But the same thing is happening is FFVII. When it gets to a part of the game where there is supposed to be a movie, it is simply skipped. I remember FFVII having some pretty awesome movies in it, which is one of the reasons I was so looking forward to playing the game again. But it is very disappointing to see that they are just skipped.

Is this normal? Like I said, at first I thought I had a bad iso or something, but it's the same situation in two different games for two different platforms. Is there a problem with my firmware install? Would upgrading to 3.90 m33 fix this, or maybe even downgrading to an earlier version? Or do I just have to deal with the lack of movies when booting and playing a PS One or PSP iso? Anyone else experience anything like this?

Here's a good experiment to conduct. Play a UMD game and see if you get movies.

That's a good idea. Too bad I don't have any UMD's with me right now. Loaned them all away.

I talked to my brother today about this same issue, as I got his fat PSP running CFW recently, and he is experiencing the same thing. He is running 3.90, though. But he got the iso of FFVII from me, so I'm still not sure. I think I am just going to re-rip my copy of FFVII and try it again to see if I get the movies.

I would still appreciate any feedback anyone has on this issue and if anyone else has the same problem.

Did you really rip this ISO from UMD? Sounds like the movies were deleted... or you have a problem with your memory stick.

If it's only psp movies not showing up I'd think the pmflib was screwed up on the flash, but psx don't use pmflib(i think it doesn't). However... I don't see the possibility of Ripping movies outta a psx game. LOL.

I'm starting to believe that's the case here. I did find out that there are copies of Tekken: Dark Resurrection floating around out there with the FMV's ripped out. And I did find talk of copies of FF VII with the FMV's cut out as well. So, apparently it is possible. Like I said, I would like to rip FF VII myself to make sure I got the complete game (as I have a 4gb card, so I'm not too worried about size), but from what I understand a 1x drive is needed to rip the PSX games properly, which I do not have.

Oh well, I'll keep an eye out as I play more games. Hopefully, one of them will have full motion video to show my PSP is OK. Or, I'll just stick with playing Space Invaders Extreme.

Having ripped several PSX games I can assure you that you don't need a special drive. Just download popstationgui and rip the discs.
