What did you do right before the buttons stopped working?
Think twice before saying "nothing, happened all by it self, out of the blue", 'cause if you indeed did nothing it's likely to be a HW related issue.

I remeber a case where a corrupted idstorage was the cause of buttons no longer working in the CFW's recovery menu - run KeyCleaner to check the IDS.

Plan to (maybe) recover (only if nothing else helps, though):
- Boot up from Pandora
- make full NAND dump
- IDS regen via DDC
- flash fresh (C)FW
- pray this solved it

How did it "not work"? What happened when you tried? That might also be a clue about something wrong....

Run KeyCleaner and check what it says - what does it say?

If you want efficient help, you gotta supply a bit more info ;)

Fix them with key cleaner, it should give you an option to fix it

Have you reset flash1? Although if you have reflashed the FW this drive would have been formatted as well. Worth a shot though.

What plugins do you have as well? Maybe some need to be removed?
