Upgrade PSP firmware from 3.03 OE

Hiya guys, i have recently aquires a psp in the uk that i know has had some modifications on it. the software it is using is 3.03 oe-c i think it has had the dark alex firmware/homebrew installed??

i am trying to play new games on it and they ask me to update my software which i have tried to do, but i keep getting a dadadada message to say that the game could not be started. is the update conflicting with the firmware on the psp. what can i do to sort it?? is there a single patch i need, or is there someway to get it back to normal??

can someone provide an idiots (thats me) guide to help pleeeeze
