Index Corporation, which happens to be the parent company of Atlus, is going through a tough financial period. According to Japanator, Index has filed for civil rehabilitation, which is a bit like bankruptcy, but more like drug rehab. To put it plainly, the company is attempting to recover from losses rather than just calling it quits.
A lot of questions have been raised as to the status and future of Atlus, which is responsible for bringing us the highly successful Persona series.
