Looking for a bit of info about installing custom firmware...

As the title says, I am curious about installing CF on my PSP. I recently acquired a second PSP, a 2001 model running FW 3.73. Most of the guides I have looked up on the web are getting a little old, or are confunsing and lead me around in circles trying to find out if my PSP is even hackable.

What would the best route for getting an emulator or something similar running on it? I would really like to play Mario or Zelda or something on it, it seems perfect for SNES :D Also, if I hack it, would I be able to write my own programs or games for it?

Easiest and quickest way is this.

1. Download ofw 5.03 from here, http://downloads.exophase.com/119/psp-firmware-503/
2. Place the EBOOT.PBP in x:\PSP\UPDATE (where x is the letter for your memory card)
3. Update to ofw5.03

4. Download ChickHEN R2 from here, http://downloads.exophase.com/506/chickhen-homebrew-enabler-r2/
5. Place h.cin on the root of your memory card (ie. put it at x:\ where x is the letter for your memory card)
6. put the contents of \SLIM\ChickHEN\ in the ChickHEN rar file into x:\PSP\PHOTO (where x is the letter for your memory card)
7. Press X on the PSP on the photo tab and scroll down to the bottom. It should restart the PSP, it may take a few tries though.

8. Download 5.50GEN D3 here, http://downloads.exophase.com/596/psp-custom-firmware-550-gend3/
9. Copy contents to the root of your memory card (ie. x:\ where x is the letter of your memory card)
10. Run the update from the Game menu
11. Welcome to cfw

Before that step Run pspident!!!! We dont need any bricked psp's.
