It only disables the stealth check so you can run bad rips or new waves without waiting for a new firmware update. It doesn't completely disable xbox live security.

I have a console that was made in 2006 running like a beaut. I guess it is just luck. Only had 1 xbox fail on me out of 7 that I've own/lent to my friends.
